Roberto De Zerbi is thrown into the deep end straight away
It is a very exciting time to be a Brighton and Hove Albion fan at the moment. While the decision by Graham Potter to leave for Chelsea will have come as a disappointment and upsetting for some, the Seagulls have managed to act swiftly and have gotten another talented manager through the door of the AMEX Stadium.
Roberto De Zerbi is man that has been wanted by a number of clubs after carving an impressive managerial career throughout Italy before going abroad, and while he has since admitted that he had offers from elsewhere, he had only wanted to come to Brighton.
Indeed, it could be argued that it will be the biggest challenge of his career thus far, as the Premier League is a completely different animal compared to the Serie A and the Ukrainian Premier League.
There will be many eyes on whether he can help the club continue to grow and follow Potter’s great work this season, with the Seagulls currently fourth in the top flight.
As a result, we may see a number of people looking at sites not on Gamstop when looking to bet on sport as they may have predictions that they want to make about the Italian coach’s success in the dugout on the south coast.
Of course, things could not be tricker than they already are for De Zerbi, though, as his first game in charge of the team will be against Liverpool on October 1 at Anfield. Well and truly going straight into the deep end.
While Liverpool are playing far from their best football at the moment and clearly struggling, they are a team that will still need to be played against in optimum capacity.
Thankfully, De Zerbi has an extended period of time to work with his new group of players, as the current international break is taking place.
Nonetheless, things do not get much easier for the Seagulls, as Tottenham Hotspur quickly follow, while a match against Manchester City is also on the horizon before the enforced winter break comes into effect for this year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It has been revealed that De Zerbi had impressed in his interview for the managerial role at the AMEX Stadium with his analysis of the side and how comparable he is to Potter and the way he coached, so perhaps we could see some rather interesting football be played against the big boys and some surprise results take place.
Indeed, while many will have been happy with the start and fourth at this moment in time, there will be many that will know that it is not sustainable, however there will also be some that will dare to dream.
A top 10 finish is probably the bare minimum after the start the Seagulls have had, but could higher be a realistic or possible scenario? Perhaps we will have to wait and see how De Zerbi does in his first few games to truly find out what might happen.
