Inigo Calderon voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for February 2015

When you look at the decisions that Chris Hughton has made in his first two months as Brighton and Hove Albion manager, none stands out as more of a masterstroke than pushing Inigo Calderon forward into a much more attacking role and that is recognised as he wins his first WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award of the season.

Most people thought it was purely a one-off against Ipswich Town to deal with the attacking threat of Tyrone Mills at left back, but the bearded wonder has remained in his advanced position ever since and that move worked wonders throughout February.

Not only did Calderon play his part in three clean sheets against Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United but he also popped up with three vital goals – two against Birmingham City and one against Leeds, scored with his face.

David Stockdale was criticised by some fans for his performance in February’s opening defeat against Nottingham Forest but he bounced back with three clean sheets in the next four games and a match winning penalty save right on the stroke of half time against Birmingham to take second place.

As spring approaches so does the sort of form that vindicates why Joao Teixeira is so highly rated by parent club Liverpool. He bewitched both Birmingham and Leeds defences on their visits to the Amex, including netting a brace against the former in a stunning individual display which went a long way to securing third.
