The Goldstone Years - 1902-1997

Many Albion fans first memories of Brighton and Hove Albion come from the Goldstone Ground - the smell of piss in the North Stand, standing in the Chicken Run, crumbling concrete, crowd surges and snapped crossbars. In 1995 it was sold to developers by a chairman who had every intention of walking away with the proceeds of the sale and so, two years later, 95 years of history came to an end as we were forced into saying goodbye to the ground and began 14 years of nomadic existence before The Amex arrived

If you have any photos from games at the Goldstone that you would like to share with us, please e-mail them to And don't forget you can also relive every season spent at the Theatre of Trees with our Withdean Years Review
