Liam Bridcutt voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for December 2012
Another month, another Liam Bridcutt win in our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month poll as the central midfielder adds December’s award to November to become only the second ever player after Vicente to record back-to-back victories.
Brighton and Hove Albion may not have won a game in December, but that didn’t stop Bridcutt from impressing not just supporters at the Amex but visiting Premier League scouts as well, with Norwich City now rumoured to be intereated in securing his signature in the January transfer window.
That has also led to talk of a call up for Scotland which he qualifies for through a cousins Grandmother fifth removed who once visited Edinburgh Castle in the 1920’s. While we wouldn’t like to comment on that or the desparation of the Scottish to have any vaguely talented player outside the Premier League be available to them, we will stick our heads above the parapet and say that on this form he will be a shoe-in for another Player of the Season crown come the end of the campaign.
Kazenga LuaLua secured second spot behind Bridcutt showing a welcome return to form now that he doesn’t have to worry about attending court again until the summer. This was his best month since arriving at the Amex permanently back in the summer of 2011, with trademark strikes from distance helping to earn two of the months three points in the draws away at Charlton and home to Millwall.
Third spot went to David Lopez as the former Athletic Bilbao man finally settled into the starting line up, making the top three of a Player of the Month poll for the first time as a result. His versatility became evident as he played out wide, in central midfield and even at right back and we also began to see why he arrived from La Liga with a reputation as a set piece expert thanks to two successful penalties against Millwall and Watford and a number of free kicks that although they didn’t go in, were reminiscent of Paul Watson at his pomp.
