Brighton FPL Gameweek 33: Gross set piece party in double gameweek
The Albion are one of seven teams who play twice in gameweek 33. Off the back of the weekend victory over Arsenal, both Brighton fans and FPL managers will be hoping the Albion’s current momentum continues which, given the prowess of Pascal Gross from set pieces and their first opponents being Spurs, is more likely than you might think.
Over the course of their past six matches, Brighton have the Premier League’s fifth best expected goals from (xG) from set pieces.
Going into a double gameweek, that could make Gross (£5.7 million) a good option. The German playmaker has taken more corners and free kicks than any other Albion player in that time.
Whilst midweek opponents Manchester City have conceded the fewest chances from set pieces over the past six gameweeks (five), Spurs have offered up the third most in the Premier League with 26.
The trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has the potential for Gross to add yet more assists to his Brighton tally, which will be good news to FPL managers who own him.
In terms of Albion players who can deliver in open play, gameweek 32 might have been the week when FPL woke up to the talents of Enock Mwepu (£5.9 million).
The Computer has endured an injury hit debut campaign in England. He was voted WAB Player of the Month in October but has rarely enjoyed a run in the side since thanks to a succession of problems.
Mwepu made his first start since January in Arsenal 1-2 Brighton and it was some showing from the Zambia captain.
Only four players recorded a higher bonus points score than Mwepu, who returned 14 points from his goal and assist.
During the match, Mwepu averaged a chance every 25.4 minutes. He also picked up a clean sheet point as he was substituted before the Arsenal goal.
On paper, neither of the Albion’s double gameweek fixtures seem appealing. But Brighton tend to play better against the stronger sides and with a good run of fixtures to finish the season once City is out of the way, the Seagulls’ attacking players could be worth the investment.
Captain Fantastic
A number of FPL managers will look to captain players who double in Gameweek 33. James Maddison (£7.0 million) plays twice, with attractive fixtures against Newcastle United and Everton.
The Leicester midfielder has returned in each of his last three Premier League matches and, in that time, has earned 22 points.
Throughout the last six Gameweeks, Maddison has four attacking returns – more than any other Leicester player.
He is top for expected assists (xA) and second only to Harvey Barnes (£6.6 million) for expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI).
Manchester United have a mixed double gameweek, with an attractive fixture against Norwich City preceding a very tough match at Liverpool.
Ralf Rangnick’s side are without a win in their last three Premier League matches. However, the game against Norwich may make managers look to captain one of the Red Devils.
Bruno Fernandes (£11.6 million) or Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.2 million) will likely be the options that managers look towards if they want to captain a United player.
Across the United team, Ronaldo is top for attacking returns in the last six gameweeks. However, all three of those came in one match against Spurs.
Tellingly, it is Fred (£4.9 million) who leads they way for FPL points with 27. This makes captaining a United player less attractive.
Fernandes is top for xA and xGI in their team during the last six Gameweeks, with Ronaldo coming first for xG.
