Brighton FPL Gameweek 29: Make Jason your man of Steele

Brighton return to Premier League action with a double gameweek 29 which is sure to make their assets popular with FPL managers – including for the first time in his football career, Jason Steele.

At the age of 32, Steele now finds himself installed as Albion number one. It is quite the rise for a player previously best known to most of the footballing public as being one of the shell shocked goalkeepers from the first series of Sunderland Till I Die.

Steele kept a clean sheet when surprisingly chosen ahead of Robert Sanchez for the Seagulls’ 4-0 win over West Ham United and followed that up with another against Crystal Palace.

He is yet to concede a goal in 180 minutes of Premier League action at the Amex since Roberto De Zerbi declared Steele had usurped Robert Sanchez in the pecking order.

FPL managers who opt for Jason Steele will be saving nearly £1 million of their budget with him being one of the cheapest Brighton players in the game, costing only £3.9 million.

Steele benefits from having a tight defence in front of him and that gives him every chance of recording a lot of points, especially in a double gameweek featuring Brentford at home and a trip to struggling Bournemouth.

Of the other Albion players who may attract attention, FPL managers should be mindful that several big hitters have had long flights for international duty.

Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5 million) was in action for Argentina in the early hours of Wednesday morning. De Zerbi will have been pleased that Mac Allister was withdrawn after less than hour.

Pervis Estupinan (£4.8 million) endured a flight to Australia, played twice for Ecuador and was then due to fly back on Wednesday. Likewise Moises Caicedo. Kaoru Mitoma (£5.5 million) meanwhile played twice in Japan.

Whilst it is true those players may have their playing time carefully managed as a result of their exertions, it is also worth considering that Brighton have another double to come in gameweek 34 and at least one more still to be arranged.

The number of additional fixtures is going to make Albion assets very popular and it would seem wise for FPL managers to invest in three players from the Seagulls. The question then becomes who?

How to invest in Brighton for FPL double gameweeks
Mitoma is currently Brighton’s most popular FPL asset, owned by 23.1 percent of the game. He has registered an attacking return in each of his last three Premier League matches, alongside 73 points in 11 matches since the Gameweek 17 restart. Only four midfielders have returned more.

One of those midfielders is WAB March 2023 Player of the Month Solly March (£5.1 milion). His 75 points make him highly attractive to managers who want to double up on Brighton midfielders. Between them, Mitoma and March have scored 12 goals and assisted six times since the World Cup.

Managers could also decide to have the likes of Mac Allister or Evan Ferguson (£4.6 million), who earlier in the week was talked up by Kylian Mbappe.

By investing twice in the Brighton attack, they will be able to maximise the double gameweek potential of the Seagulls’ attack, whilst also leaving a slot available for a Albion defender.

Estupinan offers a good combination of defensive potential and attacking threat. But for those looking to save their budget, then Steele is the very obvious pick.

Captain Fantastic
With 12 teams playing twice in Gameweek 29, most FPL managers will look to hand their captain’s armband to a player with two fixtures.

Marcus Rashford (£7.3 million) withdrew from the England squad with a slight injury. However, if declared fit, he could be a great captaincy option. Rashford is the highest-scoring FPL midfielder since the restart, having registered 94 points.

Liverpool have a difficult pair of trips to Manchester City and Chelsea. If they are to make the most of those, Mohamed Salah (£12.8 million) will be central to their efforts.

The Egyptian international has returned in four of his last six Premier League matches, totalling 49 points in that time.
