Adam El-Abd voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for December 2011

He’s only been back from injury a month, but that hasn’t stopped last seasons Player of the Year Adam El-Abd from making an instant impact on the Championship by winning our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award for December 2011.

It says much about the torrid time the Albion were given in the last month of 2011 that a man who only started three games, lost all three and scored an own goal can win the accolade, but it was in difficult circumstances that El-Abd made his return the side.

He completed an outstanding 90 minutes in the Burnley debacle in his first start since April and he gave a solid showing at right back away at Reading despite the fact he ended up deflecting the ball past Casper Ankergren for an own goal. Nobody really shown in the defeat at Coventry so the less said about that, the better.

Second place went to Will Buckley who got his first run of games since the opening month of the season after a number of niggling injury set backs. The winger made his mark on the side by scoring the only goal of December in the only win of December with his last minute strike against Nottingham Forest. His only start came at Reading but his substitute appearances in the other four games were enough to see him finish behind El-Abd.

Craig Noone missed out on a place in the top three for the first time this season in our November Player of the Month poll but he was back in the winners enclosure for December thanks to a fine performance in the unorthordox position of wing back after being introduced from the bench early on as part of the tactical reshuffle against Burnley.

He also started in the position in the defeat at Coventry and given what a shambles that was, it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing 3-5-2 again anytime soon.
