Brighton FPL Gameweek 10: Robert Sanchez, bonus points machine
Question: How do you know you have a good goalkeeper? Answer: When they can still record a high FPL points haul even after conceding four goals in a single game, as Robert Sanchez did in gameweek 9 when Brighton were wiped out by Manchester City.
Sanchez (£4.6 million) was top across FPL for saves, registering a magnificent eight to earn two save points for his managers. He also gained two bonus points even as it finished Brighton 1-4 Manchester City, making Sanchez the fifth-highest scoring goalkeeper in gameweek 9.
Couple this with the two clean sheets that Sanchez has kept in the last four FPL gameweeks – joint-most in the division – and the Brighton number one looks like an excellent option for the weeks ahead.
Brighton go to a rampant Liverpool in FPL gameweek 10, presenting Sanchez with the chance to rack up more save points. After facing the Reds, the Albion’s fixture list takes on a much gentler look.
Matches against Newcastle United, 1982 European Champions Aston Villa and The Leeds United take the Seagulls through to the end of November and Sanchez would expect to win further clean sheet points from those based on his work so far this season.
Defensive wise, Brighton have conceded 66 attempts in the box in the current campaign. Only Manchester City, Brentford, Wolves and Chelsea have conceded fewer. The Albion also have the eighth-best expected goals conceded (xGC) tally in the league with 11.30.
In terms of forwards, Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4 million) registered Brighton’s gameweek 9 goal during the 18 minutes that he played against Manchester City – his third return of the season.
Mac Allister has started just once so far – in gameweek 2 – but is an asset to keep on the radar if he manages to record more starts, as many Albion fans feel he is deserving off.
He could be a great differential, currently owned by just 0.4 percent of the game. Alongside Mac Allister, Adam Lallana (£5.4 million) was fourth for tackles across the gameweek. He registered nine in total, five of which were successful.
Whilst many FPL managers may consider abandoning Brighton assets ahead of the trip to Anfield, the consistency of returns thus far – as well as the fixtures that follow – make them easy holds for managers with the foresight to plan further ahead.
Captain Fantastic
Mo Salah (£12.9 million) will likely once again by the most popular captain option as he has now returned in eight of the season’s nine fixtures. However, for those Seagulls fans who do not want to bet against their own team, there are some other great options.
Mason Mount (£7.5 million) was another hat-trick scorer from gameweek 9 and faces a manager-less Newcastle team who have conceded five goals in the last two gameweeks.
Phil Foden (£8.1 million) should also be considered as a differential captain option. Foden and Manchester City face a Crystal Palace side who have not kept a clean sheet in the last four gameweeks.
Foden has now returned in each of his last three Premier League fixtures, helped by Pep Guardiola using him as a centre forward in recent weeks.
