Brighton FPL Gameweek 10: That Trossard and Welbeck combo

Fourth hosts third in FPL Gameweek 10 with Brighton facing Spurs and if what we saw from the Albion at Anfield on Saturday is anything to go by, Seagulls attacking assets like Danny Welbeck and Leandro Trossard are going to be worth investing in.

Roberto De Zerbi showed no fear in his first game in charge. His Brighton went on the attack from the opening whistle, catching Liverpool completely by surprise.

The Seagulls could have been 4-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes. Central to all that was treble-scoring hero Trossard, becoming just the third Brighton player to score a top flight hat-trick.

Welbeck meanwhile played a very underrated supporting role, which seems to have gone under the radar in the rush to laud the Vampire of Genk.

Trossard (£6.7 million) shining away at Liverpool is nothing new, of course. It continued his 100 record of returns at Anfield, although neither of his previous outings on Merseyside come close to the brilliant 20-point haul which he earned in Liverpool 3-3 Brighton.

The Belgian is now the second highest scoring FPL midfielder with 52 points so far, just one behind his far-more expensive compatriot Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4 million).

History suggests Trossard will add to that haul in Gameweek 10. He has a great record against Tottenham, averaging 5.2 points per match against the North London side with two double-digit scores in the last three games.

Picking Trossard looks a no-brainer for FPL managers – and now here comes the case for Welbeck (£6.5 million). Lots of popular forwards have been ruled out through injuries in recent weeks, leading to chopping and changing in FPL lineups.

Welbeck remains one of the few budget options who has been consistently selected and delivered points so far in 2022-23.

Dat Guy has the potential to be a great differential. He is currently owned by just 1.2 percent of participants and has returned assists in the last two gameweeks.

Welbeck has also created two big chances over the same period. That ties him with Erling Haaland (£12.1 million) ahead of all other forwards in the game.

Indeed, over the season so far, Welbeck has created ten chances for his teammates. Only four forwards have set up more.

Captain Fantastic
After registering a hat-trick, two assists and three bonus points in Gameweek 9, Manchester City’s Haaland will likely once again be the game’s most captained player. He faces a Southampton team who are yet to keep a clean sheet so far this season.

For managers looking to differentiate their captaincy pick, Chelsea could offer some good opportunities. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.0 million) and Raheem Sterling (£10.0 million) face a Wolves team that is struggling with injuries and suspensions.

Aubameyang scored in Gameweek 9 for his first goal since returning to English football and Sterling is Chelsea’s top scorer for the season.
