Brighton FPL Gameweek 15: Dunk and Webster v toothless Wolves

Brighton were magnificent in their destruction of Chelsea and whilst FPL managers might be tempted to invest in Albion forwards going into Gameweek 15 as a consequence, there is a stronger argument to look at Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster at the other end of the pitch.

The Seagulls travel to Molineux to face a Wolves side who have scored just six times so far this season. That is the lowest total of anyone in the Premier League, whilst their lack of goals (and available strikers) ultimately cost Bruno Lage his job.

Brighton defenders are therefore a good option, especially with the Albion’s final match before the World Cup an attractive home fixture against an Aston Villa side adapting to life under Unai Emery.

Joel Veltman (£4.6 million) sits on 37 points, although he missed the 4-1 win over Chelsea. Dunk (£4.7 million) is on the same points total, meaning that both have better returns than more popular, premium defenders like Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2 million), Andrew Robertson (£6.7 million) and Reece James (£5.9 million).

Webster (£4.5 million) meanwhile can offer potential points in defence and attack. Although he is yet to score so far this season, only eight defenders in FPL have managed more goal attempts than Webster’s 10. That leaves him seventh for expected goals (xG) within his position.

Dunk and Webster have an extra incentive to impress for Brighton and rack up the FPL points against Wolves. Both have apparently been included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 55-man England squad for the World Cup.

It seems pretty unlikely that either will be on the plane in Southgate’s final 26, but that the Three Lions boss has acknowledged their existence is a pretty bloody big milestone in itself.

For any FPL managers wanting a Brighton attacking asset, then it is hard to look beyond Leandro Trossard (£6.9 million) right now.

There was a lot of debate over whether Trossard was worth sticking with ahead of back-to-back matches with Manchester City and Chelsea.

Trossard though has returned goals in both those fixtures, grabbing an impressive consolation at the Etihad Stadium and then heaping embarrassment on former Albion head coach Graham Potter.

The Vampire of Genk returned 14 points from those two matches. Only two midfielders in the game have returned more FPL points than Trossard this season.

Away from Trossard, Pascal Gross (£5.6 million) also ranks as one of the top 10 midfielders so far. Gross started at right back in the win over Chelsea before being pushed forward in the final 20 minutes to play just behind Trossard, from where he added the Albion’s fourth goal in stoppage time.

Captain Fantastic
With Erling Haaland (£12.1 million) still a doubt, FPL managers will potentially have to look elsewhere for the captain’s armband.

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.5 million) has returned in six of the last seven Gameweeks and is first for both influence and creativity across all midfielders.

Elsewhere, Newcastle’s Callum Wilson (£7.5 million) returned 19 points at the weekend and could be an excellent differential captain in Gameweek 15.

He secured nine points during his last Premier League match against opponents Southampton, and like Dunk and Webster is attempting to impress Southgate for a place in Qatar.
