Brighton FPL Gameweek 22: Albion players to pick for double gameweek

Brighton players will make for in-demand FPL assets in gameweek 22 following the announcement that the Seagulls’ home game against Chelsea has been hastily rescheduled for midweek, giving the Albion a double gameweek.

Albion assets were already likely to be popular against Crystal Palace, especially in relation to their defence who continue to offer excellent returns so far in 2021-22.

The Blues’ visit to the Amex being brought forward from February due to their involvement in the World Club Cup suddenly makes selecting from the Seagulls an even more attractive opposition.

Here are some of the best Brighton players to consider for your FPL side ahead of the double gameweek.

The case for all-out attack
One of the most popular Brighton assets during the 2021-22 season has been Yves Bissouma (£4.4 million) but with him now away at AFCON, there may be managers who look to swap him for a different Albion option.

For those who have an additional £0.9m to spend, Alexis Mac Allister (£5.3 million) may have found form at the right time.

Mac Allister registered just his second full 90 minutes of the season in gameweek 21, picking up 15 points from two goals and all three bonus points as Brighton won 3-2 away at Everton.

The Argentine also came fourth for crosses amongst the first set of the gameweek’s fixtures with five, three of which were successful.

Up front, Neal Maupay (£6.5 million) also seems to be finding his form ahead of the double gameweek. He was voted WAB December 2021 Brighton Player of the Month and has now returned in four of his last five Premier League appearances, picking up 30 points for his managers.

Since Gameweek 14, only premium-priced Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5 million) and Harry Kane (£12.2 million) have recorded more goals than Maupay.

Moreover, his 10 goal attempts in the same period can only be beaten by five other forwards in the game. Maupay has created five chances – two of them big – leading to one assist in that period.

The case for the defence
Even with a fixture against Chelsea as part of the double gameweek, the Brighton defence still looks like a worthy FPL investment.

In their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge last month, the Albion conceded only to a Romelu Lukaku header from a corner. Between Lukaku opening the scoring midway through the first half and the game entering the final 10 minutes, Chelsea did not muster a single shot on target.

The Brighton back line completely nullified the threat of the European Champions, leaving them to go over an hour without a meaningful effort in front of their own fans.

Dan Burn (£4.4 million) registered eight points in gameweek 21 at Everton from his goal and bonus point. On top of this, he ranked first across the first nine fixtures of the gameweek for clearances, blocks and interceptions with 13, two more than anyone else.

Now that we have entered January, many FPL managers will be looking to potentially play their chips. Having two playing goalkeepers is therefore a fantastic option ahead of activating the bench boost chip over the coming weeks.

Only Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1 million) has more FPL managers than Robert Sanchez (£4.6 million) and no other goalkeeper in his price point has recorded more points this season than the Brighton shot stopper.

For managers who have a set and forget goalkeeper with a bench keeper that does not play, now looks to be a great time to switch to rotating goalkeepers and invest in Sanchez.

Captain Fantastic
With Mohamed Salah (£12.8 million) now away on international duty at AFCON, managers will be forced to pick a different captain. This will likely mean that there are several players in the captaincy conversation.

Double gameweek players will make for popular captaincy picks with the likes of Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Mount (£7.7 million) all likely to prove popular.

However, on paper, Watford have what seems to be the kindest double gameweek. Therefore – despite their precarious league position – handing the armband to Josh King (£5.8 million) or a fully-fit Emmanuel Dennis (£6.1 million) could be a fantastic differential option to boost managers up mini-leagues and overall rank.
