Brighton FPL Gameweek 23: Pass master Webster in fine form for Foxes
Brighton players were some of the most-bought FPL assets ahead of double gameweek 22 – and anyone who banked on Adam Webster to deliver would have enjoyed a particularly fruitful points haul from the Albion’s matches with Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Webster (£4.4 million) was top across FPL for passes with 110 – and those simply came from Brighton 1-1 Palace. 94 of his passes against the Eagles were successful.
Add to his numbers an outstanding performance against Chelsea in midweek which included scoring the Albion’s equaliser and you find yourself with a player who is enjoying his best form and FPL returns of the season.
That can continue away against a Leicester City side who have struggled so far this campaign, compared to high standards they have set since Brendan Rodgers arrived three years ago.
If the Albion are to succeed at the King Power Stadium, then they will need to be better in front of goal. Three players made it into the top five for expected goal (xG) under achievers in gameweek 22.
This statistic means that Pascal Gross (£5.7 million), Jakub Moder (£4.5 million) and Leandro Trossard (£6.1 million) underachieved against Crystal Palace and should have returned more FPL points for their managers.
In amongst all the anger towards Gross for his missed penalty, it almost went unnoticed that he created four chances against Palace – the third-most in FPL over the weekend.
Gross was also third across the division for crosses with nine. Do not let him taking the worst Albion spot kick since Ryan Harley at Millwall in 2011 cloud your judgement of the FPL points he can offer with his creativity.
A safe pair of hands
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1 million) is currently the most highly-owned player in the game and appears in 18.5 percent of FPL teams.
However, Ramsdale will miss gameweek 25 due to Chelsea playing in the Club World Cup and gameweek 27 because of the League Cup Final. These blank gameweeks will give Ramsdale owners a headache.
Thankfully, Brighton shot-stopper Robert Sanchez (£4.6 million) rotates perfectly, meaning that investing in Sanchez is the perfect option.
Having two playing goalkeepers will also put FPL managers in a great position for playing their Bench Boost chip, considering Brighton and Arsenal have two and four games-in-hand respectively. There is plenty of double gameweek potential between the duo.
Sanchez has kept six clean sheets so far this season and has made 54 saves from 19 Premier League fixtures.
He has only conceded 19 goals, less than 13 of the regular playing goalkeepers including the likes of Hugo Lloris (£5.4 million) David De Gea (£5.2 million) and the Albion’s gameweek 23 opposition keeper Kasper Schmeichel (£4.8 million).
Captain Fantastic
With Mohamed Salah (£12.7 million) still away with Egypt at the African Cup of Nations, FPL managers are starting to make different choices with the captain’s armband.
Manchester City assets Phil Foden (£8.0 million) and Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1 million) will likely be popular options this time.
De Bruyne has now returned in four of his last six Premier League fixtures, with two double-digit hauls in that period.
He also ranked second for shots over the weekend fixtures of gameweek 22, with three of his four on target.
Joao Cancelo (£7.0 million) also looks like a fantastic captaincy option. Cancelo’s 11-point haul in gameweek 22 was his sixth double-digit return of the season and he has recorded 41 FPL points in the last five gameweeks alone.
