Brighton FPL Gameweek 26: Lamptey on best run since 2022
FPL Double Gameweek 25 brought a lot of attention to the assets of clubs who would play twice – yet a 5-0 win over Sheffield United meant Brighton talents sat amongst the top scorers, whilst the improving fitness of Tariq Lamptey should be of note to FPL managers.
Despite Liverpool, Manchester City, Brentford and Luton Town all having 180 minutes of football in Gameweek 25, Kaoru Mitoma (£6.4 million) and Simon Adingra (£5.0 million) both racked up big points for their owners.
Mitoma assisted twice at Bramall Lane and Adingra marked his return from AFCON with two goals, claiming a whopping 15 points. Adingra’s recommendation to FPL managers last week is amongst the best of the season so far.
Albion captain Lewis Dunk (£5.0 million) also reached double figures against the Blades, claiming 12 points thanks to an assist and a clean sheet.
With Brighton facing an Everton side who have not won for eight matches at the Amex in Gameweek 26, here are a couple of Seagulls worth considering.
Tariq Lamptey (£3.9 million)
Lamptey represents a super-cheap option for FPL managers on account of the injury problems which have blighted the Brighton full back over the past four seasons.
But having not started consecutive Premier League matches for almost two years going back to 2022, Lamptey is now on three-in-a-row from the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace and back-to-back away games at Spurs and Sheffield United.
Lamptey first burst onto the scene towards the end of the 2019-20 campaign, collecting an assist and three clean sheets in the final eight matches.
He was then one of the most electric players and sought-after FPL buys in the opening months of 2020-21, setting up a goal in each of the first three Gameweeks.
That progress was, however, checked in December 2020 with Lamptey spending nearly a year out. Each subsequent return has been brief, with another injury following shortly after.
It is therefore great to see Lamptey regularly starting for Brighton again and with his FPL price yet to reflect his recent run of games, he looks an excellent buy for FPL managers – even more so than the previously endorsed bargain of Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.1 million).
Pascal Gross (£6.4m)
Regularly picked out as Brighton’s most appealing FPL option, Gross set up Adingra’s first strike at Sheffield United to ensure he’s delivered an attacking return in three successive matches.
Now up to eighth in the midfield rankings, his assist came from one of 19 crosses against the Blades. Only one player exceeded this over the weekend, similar to Gross being this season’s second-best Premier League player for chances created (67).
A maestro for both set pieces and open play, expect the in-form 32-year-old to be a popular purchase as the League Cup final denies all of Diogo Jota (£8.3 million), Richarlison (£7.1 million) and Cole Palmer (£5.8 million) a Gameweek 26 outing.
Captaincy
Moving onto the Gameweek 26 armband, four teams maybe without fixtures but there are still plenty of appealing choices.
Manchester City travel to Bournemouth, meaning Erling Haaland (£14.4 million) will be heavily backed as usual.
But Bukayo Saka (£9.0 million) has a stunning six goals and 49 points from his last four matches thanks to Arsenal running riot against Burnley, West Ham and Crystal Palace in recent weeks.
The Gunners are at home to a Newcastle United side with a leaky defence, conceding 27 times in their past 11 matches. That may make Saka hard to resist.
In fact, no team has conceded more goals, shots on target (79) or big chances (41) since Gameweek 15 than the Toon Army. Not the sort of form you want to be taking to the Emirates.
