Brighton FPL Gameweek 27: Mac Allister back on the attack
With Brighton in action twice in double gameweek 27, their assets have become key targets for FPL managers – and it is Alexis Mac Allister who is proving to be particularly popular following a change of position in recent matches.
The Albion have scored 20 goals in their nine fixtures since the winter restart. Only Arsenal (26), Manchester City (26) and Manchester United (21) have more.
Brighton also had the highest expected goals (xG) tally of any team in gameweek 27 when hammering West Ham United 4-0 at the Amex.
The Seagulls’ total of 3.70 was almost one bigger than second-place Liverpool managed in their 7-0 hammering of Manchester United.
That is not to say it is straightforward when it comes to selecting Brighton players. The Seagulls follow double gameweek 27 with a blank gameweek 28 because of their FA Cup quarter final against League Two Grimsby Town.
The benefits of playing two kind-looking Premier League fixtures against Leeds United and Crystal Palace, however, outweigh the negative of no game the following week.
Solly March (£5.1 million), Kaoru Mitoma (£5.4 million) and that man Mac Allister (£5.4 million) are likely to be the most attractive Brighton options to FPL managers.
Alexis Mac Allister
Long term injury to Adam Lallana has seen Mac Allister played as a number 10 in the Albion’s past three matches having spent most of the season in a more defensive role.
He registered two attacking returns against West Ham with his penalty conversion for the opener meaning he has now successfully scored his last four spot kicks.
These attacking returns were his first since the restart and came at the right time for the 115,000 managers who brought him in ahead of the gameweek 26 deadline.
Mac Allister also bettered both March and Mitoma in the Hammers hammering, having three goal attempts and creating three chances.
Indeed, Mac Allister has had 11 shots inside the box since taking over from Lallana at number 10. This more than doubles the five he achieved over the first six months of the season.
Kaoru Mitoma
For the first time since October, Mitoma saw a WAB Player of the Month award go to someone else with Pervis Estupinan winning the February vote.
The Japanese Bullet Train had a quieter month compared to the high standards he has set so far this season. But against West Ham, he was back to his barnstorming best with a goal and assist.
And although recent performances have not been so eye catching, Mitoma still has three goals to his name in his past six Premier League outings.
That is more than any other Brighton player. Unsurprisingly, his goal conversion rate betters all his teammates.
Solly March
Owners of March were very unlucky not to receive more FPL points in gameweeek 26. His 11 penalty area touches exceeded both Mac Allister (7) and Mitoma (5).
He also assisted the assist on two occasions, as well as missing an opportunity of his own from six yards. March could therefore consider himself unfortunate to miss out on a fifth double-digit haul from 10 matches.
In the past six gameweeks, March’s 15 goal attempts are level with Mac Allister and nine more than Mitoma.
Captain Fantastic
Brighton and Brentford players will no doubt prove popular picks for the captain’s armband with both clubs flying high in the table and in action twice.
Mac Allister looks the standout pick from the Albion. As for Brentford, Ivan Toney (£7.7 million) is the third-highest scoring FPL forward and he faces Everton and Southampton.
