Brighton FPL Gameweek 29: Albion assets for a Liverpool – Spurs double

Brighton are one of six teams to play twice in FPL double gameweek 29, welcoming a rampant Liverpool side to the Amex followed by a home game with Spurs.

Two fixtures which to most outsiders look extremely difficult, even before you consider that the Albion are on a four game losing streak.

And yet Graham Potter’s Seagulls have a habit of raising their game against the Premier League’s better sides, taking victories and draws from title challengers a matter of weeks after failing to beat relegation threatened outfits.

Brighton had gone through January undefeated but one win from their five top flight games since the start of February has raised concerns.

So bad were the Albion in February that Solly March was voted as WAB Player of the Month despite only setting foot on the pitch for 125 minutes.

The good news ahead of this FPL double gameweek is that the underlying stats Brighton put up at Newcastle United last weekend point to a recovery being underway for the Seagulls.

After the first 10 fixtures of gameweek 28, the Albion ranked top for both crosses (28) and aerial duels (55). This suggests that they were unlucky not to come back from Newcastle with at least a point rather than a 2-1 defeat.

Brighton were also second for touches in the opponents half – only Saturday opponents Liverpool had more – and fifth for passes.

Pascal Gross (£5.7 million) returned to the starting XI in gameweek 28 and picked up an assist plus a bonus point. Gross’ underlying stats also looked promising for FPL investment.

The German was top across the division for chances created (5) and crosses (14). Owned by just 0.3 percent of the game, Gross could be a fantastic differential

Danny Welbeck (£5.9 million) could also be one. Similarly, Welbeck is owned by just 0.3 percent of FPL managers. Whilst he has not brought an attacking return since gameweek 13, Welbeck’s underlying stats look promising.

Welbeck was ninth for expected goal (xG) underachievers in gameweek 28. This means that Welbeck was unlucky not to return in the defeat on Tyneside.

Captain Fantastic
Double gameweek 29 players will be key targets for FPL managers when it comes to the captain’s armband. Even though he blanked last weekend, Mohamed Salah (£13.2 million) is likely to be the most popular choice.

Salah is the only player in the game to have returned over 200 points this season. Liverpool are also top for goals scored over the last six gameweeks with 16 and are averaging a chance every 4.7 minutes. #Pray4Brighton.

Harry Kane (£12.3 million) is also a strong option for FPL managers, having returned three double-digit hauls from the last four gameweeks.

Over this period, he ranks top amongst forwards for goals, goal attempts and big chances created. #Pray4Brighton (again).
