Brighton FPL Gameweek 27: No need to panic after Burnley defeat
Brighton fans and FPL managers owning Albion assets alike would have been bitterly disappointed by the Seagulls’ 3-0 defeat to Burnley in gameweek 26.
The first reaction after such a disaster is often to consider jettisoning Brighton players from FPL teaams. Not only was the result disappointing, but so too was the performance.
A tough run of March fixtures does little to dissuade from the notion that FPL points might be hard to come by over the next month.
This though would be a mistake. Losing 3-0 to Burnley should be seen as a blip and there are no immediate causes for concern for FPL managers who own Brighton players.
The underlying stats still look investable, especially with a double gameweek to come following this Saturday’s home fixture against Aston Villa and the trip to Newcastle United a week later.
As a team, Brighton rank fourth for passes this season. Furthermore, they rank second for crosses and fifth for touches in the opposition half.
Midfielder Pascal Gross (£5.7 million) ranks third across the league for crosses so. He has supplied 106 crosses for his teammates and 35 of those have been successful.
Only Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5 million) and Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse (£6.5 million) have supplied more crosses than the Brighton man.
Gross is also 10th for creativity amongst midfielders this season. Although he didn’t feature at the weekend, he had started the three previous gameweeks for Brighton.
Potter is sure to shake things up after the Burnley defeat and Gross would have one of the biggest claims for a recall. At just 0.3 percent ownership, he would be a real differential over the next few weeks.
Forward Neal Maupay (£6.6 million) has returned in four of the last seven fixtures stretching back to when he was voted WAB Player of the Month for December.
Maupay is currently the Seagulls’ most in-form player, except for Adam Webster (£4.4 million) who missed the Burnley game injured.
Captain Fantastic
Burnley are the only team to play twice in double gameweek 27. This means that striker Wout Weghorst (£6.5 million) will likely be a popular captaincy option. However, there are plenty of premium alternatives this weekend.
Gameweek 26 was the first fixture this season where Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min (£10.8 million) and Harry Kane (£12.2 million) both returned double-digit hauls.
Next, they face a Leeds United team who have conceded 30 goals in their last 10 Premier League matches.
Manchester City will also want to bounce back from a disappointing defeat. Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0 million) is up against Everton, who have kept just one clean sheet since gameweek 11. De Bruyne is on set piece duty, while Everton have conceded 100 opportunities from set plays.
