Brighton FPL Gameweek 37: Expect Cucurella to end campaign in style

Brighton will head into FPL gameweek 37 full of confidence having beaten Manchester United 4-0 with Marc Cucurella in particular absolutely flying.

The Spaniard scored his first Premier League goal in the hammering of United and was named Albion Player of the Season 48 hours later at Monday night’s award ceremony.

What makes Cucurella such an attractive FPL asset is the role he plays at both ends of the pitch for Brighton. He is as important in defence as he is in attack and has been one of the main reasons that the Albion have won four, drawn one and lost one of their past six games.

That form has seen Brighton score 12 goals since gameweek 32. Over the same period, they have kept three clean sheets. That is the joint-best record across the league.

Cucurella (£4.9 million) returned 12 points against United in gameweek 36 from his emotional strike past David De Gea and a clean sheet.

That saw him rank top for BPS amongst defenders after the first round of fixtures in the double gameweek. With 18 points from his past two matches and at a very affordable price, Cucurella looks a great option ahead of the trip to the 1996 Coca Cola Cup Runners Up The Leeds United.

Leandro Trossard (£5.8 million) continues to impress since his move to a wider position, including being voted into third place in our WAB April 2022 Player of the Month Award.

Trossard’s 17 points from gameweek 36 was his fifth straight return in the Premier League. He scored the fourth goal in Brighton 4-0 Manchester United and claimed assists for Cucurella and Pascal Gross.

Throughout his last five matches, Trossard has returned 51 points. Only Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min (£11.0 million) has bettered this with two more points than the Vampire of Genk, however the Spurs man costs £5.2 million more in FPL.

Captain Fantastic
Gameweek 37 is another double gameweek and therefore many FPL managers will want to captain a player that plays twice. However, most of the premium picks only play once and have attractive fixtures.

Of the double gameweek players, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins (£7.5 million) and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha (£6.9 million) are amongst the best options.

Watkins has scored three goals in his last five matches, picking up 27 points. Meanwhile, Zaha has scored seven goals in his last 10 matches for Crystal Palace.

However, Son still appears to be a great captaincy option even with just one game to play. He is the highest scoring player in the game over the last five matches and is now just two goals between Mohamed Salah (£13.2 million) in the race for the Golden Boot.

Son has an excellent record against gameweek 37 opponents Burnley. The midfielder has returned three double-digit hauls in his last four matches against them, averaging nine points per match in that time.
