Brighton FPL Gameweek 38: Gross always guarantees points v West Ham

The Albion head into the final week of the season having already won more games than in any of their other Premier League campaigns. Lots of players have played their part, but when it comes to creating chances Pascal Gross leads the way for Brighton with the FPL returns to match.

Casual observers might look at the table and think the Seagulls have nothing to play for coming into the last day of the season.

That is not the case, however – they have the carrot of a first ever top 10 finish dangling in front of them, not to mention a significant difference in prize money the higher up the table that they place.

The Seagulls can also finish above arch rivals Crystal Palace for the first time in the Premier League era. All of this is good motivation for Brighton – and players with good motivation is something that FPL managers have to look for in the final gameweek of the season.

Another reason to be confident about the Albion is that they play West Ham, opponents who they have a good record against.

Brighton have not lost in nine matches against the Irons since winning promotion in 2017. The last six matches between the sides have ended in scoring draws.

Gross (£5.6 million) is one Brighton player in particular who seems to love facing West Ham, averaging 5.57 points per match via returning two goals, three assists and six bonus points.

The midfielder has taken 96 corners so far this season – more than any other Brighton player. In addition, his 21 free kicks is also a team-leading total.

As already mentioned, Gross tops the charts for chances created at Brighton (56), making him an attractive FPL option due to his potential route to points.

He is yet to sign an extension to his Brighton contract, which expires in June. There is a chance that this could be Gross’ last appearance for the Albion after five outstanding years, in which case he will be desperate to bow out on a high.

Gross heading home to Germany would be bad news for Brighton and FPL managers, for whom he has picked up many points during his time with the Seagulls. One last big haul would be a fitting way for him to sign off.

Alongside Gross, Leandro Trossard (£5.9 million) also looks like a great differential pick for the final day of the campaign.

Trossard is top for goal attempts at Brighton this season, with 74. Of these, 10 have been big chances. Only Danny Welbeck (£5.9 million) has had more big chances than the Vampire of Genk.

The Belgian has enjoyed an excellent FPL season overall. Only two midfielders priced £6.0 million and under have more attacking returns than Trossard this season.

Captain Fantastic
Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min (£11.2 million) is just one goal behind Mo Salah (£13.1 million) in the race for the Golden Boot.

Son also has a great record against opponents Norwich City, returning 20 points over his last two meetings with the Canaries.

His team mate Harry Kane (£12.4 million) is also a good captaincy pick this week. The forward has double-digit hauls from each of his last four gameweek 38 fixtures and averages nine points per match against Norwich.
