Brighton FPL Gameweek 6: Put low-owned Mac Allister on the spot

The Albion suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at Fulham on Tuesday night. One of the few players not to disappoint for Brighton was Alexis Mac Allister, who returned his second double-digit FPL haul of the campaign.

Some FPL managers might be tempted to get rid of Albion assets believing that the loss at Craven Cottage is the start of a downturn in form. The underlying stats though suggest that there is still plenty of opportunity for returns in the coming weeks.

Brighton had 740 touches in the opposition half, creating a chance every 14.1 minutes. Over the course of the match, there were seven goal attempts, six from inside the box and three which were classified as big chances.

Managers holding one of the Seagulls’ attacking assets should stick with them. And those who do not have Mac Allister should consider drafting him in.

Player Focus: Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5 million)
The form of Pascal Gross (£5.9 million) in the opening five matches has seen FPL managers flock to the German when picking a Brighton midfielder, meaning that Mac Allister remains very lowly owned.

Gross is currently in 19.4 percent of squads; Mac Allister in just 0.8 percent. That makes the Lionel Messi look-a-like a great differential option.

Gameweek 5 saw Mac Allister register his second double-digit haul of the season. His 11 points put him on a total of 25, which only Gross and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez (£4.7 million) have exceeded amongst teammates.

His penalty at Fulham was his second of the campaign and highlights a potential route to even more success as he is now firmly established as Graham Potter’s preferred taker.

During the 2021-22 season, Brighton were awarded seven penalties. That total was the seventh most in the Premier League.

We will not mention how many of them were missed for the sake of your sanity. Mac Allister does at least appear to know what he is doing from 12 yards, having scored three in a row (following a miss at Wolves which we won’t dwell on). This only increases Mac Allister’s appeal.

Brighton have several attractive fixtures between now and Gameweek 12. Leicester City, Plucky Little Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Nottingham Forest are all to come before mid-October.

Therefore, with penalty duties, a budget-enabling price tag and low ownership, Mac Allister stands out as a great FPL differential.

Captain Fantastic
Tottenham’s Harry Kane (£11.4 million) has returned three goals from four top-flight meetings with Gameweek 6 opponents Fulham, also picking up five bonus points.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0 million) faces Everton in the Merseyside Derby. The Egyptian has a good record against their rivals, returning three goals, one assist and three bonuses during the last four matches. In that time, Salah averaged 7.50 points per match.
