Brighton players turned into Renaissance paintings
If you’ve ever wondered what Brighton & Hove Albion players would look like when transformed into Renaissance paintings, then we’ve got the answer for you.
For reasons nobody seems to be able to understand, a Japanese developer has produced a website which allows you to turn any photo of an individual into a piece of Renaissance art.
It works by merging the picture you upload with a renaissance photo, a combination of face swap technology and a filter similar to the brilliant Snapchat filter which allowed users to turn themselves into the opposite sex.
You might remember we had great fun with that one last year, turning the 2018-19 Albion squad into women.
Some of them – like Lewis Dunk, Dale Stephens and Yves Bissouma – even looked quite attractive. We’ve definitely pulled worse out on West Street before.
The Renaissance painting filter has delivered similarly pleasing results. We feel like we should offer some sort of disclaimer here; none of the Renaissance painting filters currently available are of people of colour, which means that when applied to photos of those with darker skin, it makes them whiter.
This is a problem that the creators have acknowledged, saying: “Currently, we are confirming that the output of the AI artist has been biased. We hope to use a wide variety of learning data and increase the diversity of output in the future.”
As a result, you may notice that the likes of Yves Bissouma, Jose Izquierdo and Bernardo don’t appear as they should. This does at least give us a bloody brilliant excuse to rerun this feature when a suitable filter is introduced.
Because let’s be honest, you can never have too many Brighton players turned into Renaissance paintings in your life.
