Bruno voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for August 2012

If the results of our WeAreBrighton.com August Player of the Month award are anything to go by, then Gus Poyet can be very pleased with his work throughout the summer transfer window as two of the top three are new arrivals at the Amex.

Swashbuckling full back Bruno was the winner having made quite an impression in his first four games for the Albion. True, things didn’t get off to the best of starts in the 3-0 defeat at Swindon Town, but he looked solid at Hull before two superb performances against Cardiff and Barnsley at The Amex – including an outrageous piece of skill that wouldn’t look out of place on the beaches of Brazil in the Bluebirds visit. His cavalier style, his ability to get forward and cause all manner of problems for the opposition and his traditional, no nonsense approach to defending have already endeared him to the fans.

Last seasons top scorer Ashley Barnes has carried on where he left off to take second place. He really should have scored against Swindon Town but he more than made up for that with a brutal destruction of Barnsley in which only Craig Mackail-Smith’s cheeky little touch on the line denied him a well deserved hat-trick.

Third spot when to another new arrival in Wayne Bridge. Whoever said the former England left back had chosen to come to Sussex for an easy season ahead of retiring should be eating their words after his performances through August. He’s already got his name on the score sheet with a screamer against Barnsley and has looked a class above, playing a huge part in a much more solid Seagulls defence which conceded only twice in the league.
