David Stockdale voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for December 2014

For the second month running, a goalkeeper takes the WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month accolade with David Stockdale taking December’s prize to follow in the footsteps of November winner Christian Walton.

The £1.5m summer signing from Fulham has clearly benefited from the realisation that he doesn’t have a monopoly on the number one jersey thanks to Walton’s form when called upon last month and that inspired him to produce a string of fine stops in the draws away at Wolverhampton Wanderers and at home to Reading which helped to earn much needed points.

He saved the best until last however, pulling off two genuinely world class saves away at Fulham in the final game of 2014 to earn a rare clean sheet and help Nathan Jones to a much needed victory in the caretaker boss’s last game in temporary charge.

Inigo Calderon took second place despite having started just the final three games of the month but the Spaniard was the epitome of the upturn following Sami Hyypia’s departure, showing the sort of passion that had been solely lacking so far this season as his never-say-die attitude led to him netting the last minute equaliser against Reading.

It’s first appearance in the top three for Greg Halford. The loan signing from Nottingham Forest stepped in at centre back for the home game with Millwall with Gordon Greer out and hasn’t looked back, gaining an assist with a huge long throw at home to Reading and being an absolute rock in helping to secure the clean sheet at Fulham with one last ditch block in particular standing out.
