Gordon Greer voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for February 2012

A bald patch may be becoming more and more noticeable on the back of his head, but Brighton and Hove Albion skipper Gordon Greer proved that he is no Samson when it comes to the lose of his hair affecting his ability as he claimed his second player-of-the-month prize of the season.

The Seagulls renewed challenge for a play-off spot has been built on a sound defence and it seems that no matter who Greer plays alongside he excels, with Gus Poyet quite rightly now talking about him being easily Premier League class.

That header off the line against Ipswich Town in particular was one of the best goal line clearances you’ll ever see watching the Albion and it’s a richly deserved Player of the Month for February award to go with his WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for November award.

If Greer winning the vote wasn’t confirmation enough of the role the defence played in February’s form, then the fact that Adam El-Abd came second should hammer home the point. He had a difficult time of it at Anfield when asked to play at left back in the 6-1 FA Cup mauling, but last years player-of-the-season was otherwise outstanding when moved back to his natural position of centre back.

Third place was deservedly claimed by Alan Navarro, who has re-established himself as a mainstay of the side since the turn of the year with a string of impressive displays in front of the back four. The icing on the cake for the midfielder came with that 90th minute winner away at The Leeds United – not a bad way to score your first goal for the club.
