Lewis Dunk voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for August 2014
Despite starting the season as third choice centre back, it’s Lewis Dunk who is the winner of our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month poll for August 2014.
Dunk replaced new signing Aaron Hughes in the starting line up two games into the season and the Albion have been undefeated ever since as he established himself as Gordon Greer’s partner, helping to the side to concede the least shots on goal in the division during August. It’s just a shame David Stockdale currently seems incapable of saving anything.
It wasn’t just at the back that Dunk has had a big impact as he remarkably ended the month as the Albion’s leading scorer, netting against Cheltenham Town to help avoid a potentially dire 30 minutes of extra time in the Capital One Cup and then popping up with a points rescuing brace in the 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic.
Two new signings took second and third place in the poll with Joao Teixeira seeing off the challenge of Danny Holla for the runners up spot. The loan signing from Liverpool looked a class above in his early games for the Albion and as more quality was belatedly added to the squad after the Birmingham debacle he began to thrive, netting goals in consecutive games as Leeds United and Bolton Wanderers were beaten.
Holla’s encouraging start to life in the stripes meanwhile is even more impressive when you consider that he arrived on a free from the Netherlands with no meaningful pre-season training behind him. His addition has so far been a revelation and just like Dunk, he is yet to taste defeat so far this season.
Lewis Dunk – 56.57%
Joao Teixeira – 28.28%
Danny Holla – 8.08%
Gordon Greer – 4.04%
Bruno – 2.02%
Craig Mackail-Smith – 1.01%
