Lewis Dunk voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for October 2014
Two WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month polls conducted in the 2014-15 season, two victories for Lewis Dunk as the Brighton and Hove Albion defender had an outstanding October to secure nearly 80% of the vote.
Dunk played every minute of October and added another two goals to his collection to take his tally for the season to five, leaving him at the top of the clubs scoring charts. Those were both vital equalisers that helped to rescue points in 1-1 draws away at Watford and Huddersfield Town.
His performances this season have been one of the few success stories of Sami Hyypia’s reign so far and it is no surprise to hear that Premier League clubs such as West Ham United are taking a keen interest as he recaptures the form that marked him out as a player of real potential under Gus Poyet at the start of the 2011-12 season
It was another decent month from on-loan Aston Villa left back Joe Bennett who claimed second place in the poll, despite not one clean sheet being kept by the Albion. His determination to get forward has made him a reasonably popular player and he even chipped in with his first goal for the club at home to Rotherham United.
The paucity of candidates for October is highlighted by the fact that a man who started only one game was voted into third spot. Paddy McCourt has already become something of a cult hero at the club thanks to his homeless beard and the fact he stumbles onto the pitch looking like he has had 10 pints of Guinness the previous day. His ability to beat a man despite having zero pace has led to much delight from those of us who still harbour dreams of becoming professional footballers and it has also led to a number of goal scoring opportunities, which needless to say weren’t taking by the misfiring front line.
Lewis Dunk – 79.01%
Joe Bennett – 8.64%
Paddy McCourt – 8.64%
Gordon Greer – 2.47%
David Stockdale – 1.23%
