Pascal Gross voted WAB February 2024 Brighton Player of the Month

There were no surprises in the WAB February 2024 Brighton Player of the Month award with Pascal Gross a landslide winner.

Der Kaiser racked up almost 50 percent of the vote. He also became an extremely rare Seagull to be nominated for the Official Premier League Player of Month, losing out to Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund.

Gross set the tone for a productive February 2024 with two assists in the 4-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace at the Amex.

His corner was headed in by Lewis Dunk with less than three minutes on the clock, giving the Albion the perfect start against their arch rivals.

When Palace then kicked off having conceded goal two to Jack Hinshelwood, Gross’ aggressive press won back possession for Brighton almost immediately.

A mere 30 seconds later, a quick exchange of passes with Joao Pedro and Gross fed Facundo Buonanotte to extend the lead to three. Cue some Palace fans abandoning ship before the game had even reached half time. Glorious.

With Pedro injured for the trip to Spurs, penalty taking duties fell to Gross. He followed in the Brazilian’s footsteps, sending Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way from 12 yards to open the scoring in the Albion’s eventual 2-1 defeat in North London.

Another Gross assist followed in the 5-0 hammering of Sheffield United as Brighton racked up their biggest ever top flight away win.

He then rounded off the month with a beautiful, arching cross onto the head of Dunk for a 95th minute equaliser against Everton.

One goal. Four assists. And he must be well in the running to win what would be a record-breaking third WAB Brighton Player of the Season award come the end of the campaign.

Just a fantastic player to watch. If the day comes when Gross decides to return to Germany to finish his career – as he has eluded to in the past – then it will be one of the saddest in Albion history.

Runner up to Gross in the WAB February 2024 Player of the Month award was a close-fought thing with only 0.66 percent separating Dunk in second with Billy Gilmour in third.

You could not have picked a better player to kick start the humiliation of Palace than Dunk. He rose like the proverbial salmon to score right in front of those same Eagles fans who, after over a decade, are still yet to grasp how the British legal system works.

Even more important was Dunk’s late, late equaliser against Everton. With the Albion down to 10 men and staring their annual home defeat to a Sean Dyche managed team in the face, the captain picked out the one corner Jordan Pickford could not reach with a towering header.

How important might that draw salvaged by Dunk right at the death look come the end of the campaign if the Albion sneak back into Europe by a single point?

What made the Everton comeback particularly impressive was that it was done with only 10 men after Gilmour saw straight red for a studs up challenge on Amadou Onana.

Not that one questionable moment could stop the Scotland international sailing into third spot in February 2024 Player of the Month.

Gilmour was sublime in the wins over Palace and Sheffield United, showcasing his intelligence in possession and ability to cover an insane amount of ground from one end of the pitch to the other.

His best performance of the month though came at Spurs. Not many teams go to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and enjoy two long spells of domination, as the Albion did. Gilmour was central to that and did not deserve to be on the losing side that day.
