Vote for your February 2024 WAB Brighton Player of the Month

February 2024 offered a mix of big Premier League victories, FA Cup disappointment and more player injury problems for Brighton.

The last of those issues mean that several regulars are subsequently missing from our WAB February 2024 Player of the Month shortlist; most notably January’s winner Joao Pedro and young Jack Hinshelwood. Kaoru Mitoma too has been ruled out for the remainder of the season in a huge blow to Roberto De Zerbi.

Without the likes of Pedro or Mitoma, the Albion looked short of goals in their 1-1 draw against Everton and 1-0 FA Cup elimination away at Wolves which rounded off the month.

This was in stark contrast to what we saw in matches against Crystal Palace and Sheffield United. The Eagles were thrashed 4-1 at the Amex with the game done and dusted inside 34 minutes as Brighton sauntered 3-0 ahead.

Numerous glorious sights were seen that afternoon, from Lewis Dunk celebrating the opening goal in front of Palace fans still yet to grasp the concept of being not found guilty in a court of law to those same supporters abandoning their team to head home at half time.

At Bramall Lane, a 5-0 victory represented the biggest top flight away win in Albion history. Mitoma and Simon Adingra stole the show in South Yorkshire, reminding everyone the difference two flying wingers make to DeZerbiBall.

It is such a shame Mitoma and Solly March are done for the campaign and Ansu Fati has not really taken to Premier League football as Brighton would have hoped.

The other February fixture saw Brighton play reasonably well at Spurs, only to be undone by a 96th minute goal from Brennan Johnson.

In amongst those two wins, one draw and two defeats were a number of decent performances from Albion players. Over to you to decide who was the best individual through February.

The candidates for WeAreBrighton.com February 2024 Brighton Player of the Month

Simon Adingra
Became an African Champion with two assists and a man of the match performance as Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 2-1 in the AFCON 2024 final. Spent the next five days partying before jumping on a plane back to England and scoring twice at Sheffield United without so much as a single training session. Not a bad week of work.

Facundo Buonanotte
Two February goals underlined his impressive improvement over the course of the campaign so far. A brilliant finish leathered into the top corner provided the third in the humiliation of Palace. Followed up by showing good reactions to scramble home from close range and open the scoring against Sheffield United.

Lewis Dunk
The Palace game could not have got off to a better start than Dunk heading Brighton into a 1-0 lead right in front of the away end with less than three minutes on the clock. An even more important goal was to come against Everton, when a towering header from a Gross cross rescued a 95th minute draw.

Billy Gilmour
His intelligence in possession and the way he uses the ball are so important to Brighton. Brilliant in the Palace and Sheffield United wins, he also helped the Albion dominate for large spells at Spurs. Only blot on his February copybook being the unnecessary straight red picked up against Everton, leaving De Zerbi with even fewer central midfield options.

Pascal Gross
Four assists and one goal made February mighty productive for Der Kaiser. So much so that he was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award. A particular highlight was him gaining possession from Palace restarting the game after Brighton went 2-0 ahead, sweeping forward and teeing up Buonanotte to make it two Albion goals in 60 seconds against the Eagles.

Tariq Lamptey
Almost didn’t want to include Lamptey on the Brighton February 2024 Player of the Month shortlist for fear of jinxing him. You know the drill by now; every time anyone gets excited about ‘Lockdown Lamptey’ being back, he ends up injured again. But… four consecutive Premier League starts represented his best run of games for two years. And he was electric in each and every one.
