Stephen Ward voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for March 2014
It’s been an excellent season for Stephen Ward since his arrival on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers a few weeks into the season with arguably his best performances so far for Brighton and Hove Albion coming in March as he won his first WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award.
It was a convincing victory as well, with over half the votes seeing off the challenge of Tomasz Kuszczak and Lewis Dunk. Ward netted his second goal of the season in the excellent 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers and was the only player to come out of the disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Middlesbrough with any credit. He also continued his return to the Republic of Ireland fold, starting in the Boys in Green’s home defeat to Serbia.
There was nothing to separate second and third in the polls so the runners up spot was awarded to Kuszczak on account of the fact he played more games than Dunk. The Polish goalkeeper was superb in the wins away at Millwall and Bolton Wanderers and at home to QPR to claim another three clean sheets for his ever growing collection.
One of the big questions at the end of March was what does Dunk have to do to keep his place in the side? Two appearances, two clean sheets and a defence injected with some much needed youthful mobility. Oscar Garcia may not seem to like him, but those two appearances were enough to fire the young centre back into the top three of a Player of the Month poll for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
Stephen Ward – 55.56%
Tomasz Kuszczak – 12.7%
Lewis Dunk – 12.7%
Rohan Ince – 11.11%
Will Buckley – 7.94%
