Vicente voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for April 2012
If this was the last month we ever saw him in a Brighton and Hove Albion shirt, then at least Vicente signed off in style by making it back-to-back WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month awards.
While he never reached the ludicrously high standards which saw him win over 77% of the vote in our March Player of the Month poll, the Spanish midfielder was still easily our best performer in April.
He caused champions-elect Reading all manner of problems and he came off the bench despite complaining of illness to turn the game around and earn a point in what looked like it was going to be an embarrassing home capitulation to struggling Watford. Not even the defence of Birmingham City, one of the meanest in the division, could cope with him.
Vicente wasn’t the only man to retain his crown as for the second month running, Inigo Calderon finished was voted into the runner up position. He continued his renaissance since replacing the suspended Gonzalo Jara at right back, scoring one of the sides three goals in April in the 2-2 draw with Watford which earned him the accolade of fourth top scorer for the season – a ridiculous stat for a right back who has spent large parts of the campaign on the bench.
Alan Navarro may have just been released, but that didn’t stop him taking third place as he had another impressive month, especially when covering for Liam Bridcutt in the Player of the Season’s absence through suspension against Reading. On this form, he will have no shortage of suitors wanting to pick him up on a free transfer this summer.
Vicente – 38.18%
Inigo Calderon – 25.45%
Alan Navarro – 12.73%
Ashley Barnes – 10.91%
Adam El-Abd – 7.27%
Liam Bridcutt – 3.64%
Joe Mattock – 1.82%
