Vote for your February 2025 WAB Brighton Player of the Month

February 2025 was one of the more bizarre months in Brighton & Hove Albion history – which should make for an interesting Player of the Month Award.

It started with a 7-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Fabian Hurzeler took the frankly insane decision to play just one central midfielder at the City Ground, resulting in the heaviest league defeat inflicted on an Albion team for 67 years.

What happened in response to that shambles against the Tricky Trees was astounding. Brighton went and beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Amex in the FA Cup before thrashing the same opponents at the same ground six days later in the Premier League.

£1.5 billion spent on players in two seasons including £250 million given to the Albion for 11 members of staff and still Todd Boehly’s bottle jobs cannot beat Brighton. Hilarious stuff.

A trip to rock bottom Southampton came next, representing the exact sort of banana skin the Albion normally slip up on. Not this time though.

Brighton ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over a sorry Saints side who might just be the worst team the Albion have played during their time in the Premier League.

How much of that victory was down to Southampton ineptitude and how much because Brighton had turned a corner in big style since Forest?

We got the answer in the final game of February. The Albion saw off a Plucky Little Bournemouth outfit who have taken the league by storm this season, meaning European football could come to the Vitality Stadium for the first time ever.

An entertaining clash went 2-1 in favour of Brighton as the Seagulls got themselves back in the race for the top six alongside the Cherries.

Any of the six on our WAB February 2024 Brighton Player of the Month shortlist would be a deserved winner for the parts they have played in turning things around post-Forest.

The forwards nominated helped plunder 11 goals in four games post-Tricky Trees. Defensively, the Albion have looked more rock solid in February than arguably any other month this season.

Good luck picking out just one player to vote for.

The candidates for WeAreBrighton.com February 2025 Brighton Player of the Month

Carlos Baleba

The only Seagull on the shortlist not to be a defender or forward. Baleba continues to dominate every midfield battle he is involved in. The biggest indicator of his importance to Brighton this season though comes from what happens when he is absent. Exhibit A – the Forest game…

Tariq Lamptey

News broke during the first half at Forest that Ajax interest in signing Lamptey had cooled. Nobody could blame them for taking the decision if his performance at the City Ground was being shown live on Dutch TV. Ajax though will surely reconsider with the way Lamptey played on his weaker side at left back, particularly in both Chelsea matches. He defended brilliantly against his former club and was a real threat going forward.

Yankubu Minteh

It would be easy to sit here and just talk about THAT attempted bicycle kick clearance in his own box against Bournemouth which sent the ball 70 yards up into the air and out for a corner. And he does deserve to be voted WAB February 2025 Brighton Player of the Month for that moment alone. But there were also two goals in the 3-0 win over Chelsea and an assist at Southampton almost as impressive.

Kaoru Mitoma

24 hours before the 7-0 and Mitoma rejected millions of Saudi Sportswashing cash from Al Nassr to remain an Albion player. He must have been wondering what he had done come full time at the City Ground. His form though after saying no to all that oil money was sensational. Three goals and one assist including a world class effort against Chelsea featuring quite possibly the best first touch from a Brighton player ever.

Georginio Rutter

Rutter was January 2025 WAB Brighton Player of the Month and he stands a good chance of defending the crown in February. Two goals and two assists were combined with more off-the-pitch nonsense posted by the club on social media. Has made himself undroppable in the number 10 role ahead of Joao Pedro, who has since had to settle for either a place on the bench or leading the line in the absence of Danny Welbeck.

Adam Webster

Another injury to Lewis Dunk plunged Webster into action at half time of the Chelsea FA Cup tie. Plenty of Albion fans were worried given his performances earlier in the season – Chelsea away – and how he usually takes four or five games to get up to speed off the back of an injury layoff. But Webster has not put a foot wrong. The only goal Brighton have conceded since his introduction against the Blues being a wonder strike from Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert.
