Vote now for your March 2021 WAB Brighton Player of the Month
Brighton & Hove Albion took to the field only three times in March 2021 and with two victories, it is fair to say that this is an altogether more pleasing Player of the Month poll than we faced in February.
Four weeks ago and Brighton had managed to achieve the impressive feat of blowing a 10 point lead over Fulham to sit just one point above the relegation zone.
The only man to emerge with any sort of credit from that dismal run was Joel Veltman, who subsequently won our WAB February 2021 Player of the Month award with a staggering 84 percent of the vote.
March could not look more different. Victories away at Southampton and at home to Newcastle United have re-established a six point gap to Fulham and a string of excellent individual performances have even seen the Albion start scoring regularly with three fixtures yielding six goals from five different scorers.
Any of the players on our six man shortlist would be a worthy winner of March 2021 WAB Brighton Player of the March. There can only be one though – so who will it be?
The candidates for WeAreBrighton.com March 2021 Brighton Player of the Month
Lewis Dunk
England manager Gareth Southgate may not rate Lewis Dunk, but more fool him as the Brighton captain continued his fine second half of the season form throughout March. His best showing came at in the 2-1 win at Southampton, where he scored the opener and orchestrated a memorable defensive rear guard against a Saints side who dominated for large parts of the second half.
Pascal Gross
Pascal Gross, right wing back? Had you suggested that at the start of March we would have asked you who your crack dealer was as they are selling dangerously strong stuff. The German has been a revelation in his new role however, playing the second half of the Southampton game there after setting up Dunk’s goal before delivering another two assists against Newcastle.
Adam Lallana
Praise for a Brighton playmaker does not come any higher than being likened to Vicente. So good was Adam Lallana in March that he earned those comparisons and they were totally justified. Lallana topped the WAB Player Ratings in all three matches, scored his first Albion goal in the Leicester match and showed that ability wise, he is on another level to his teammates in the same way that El puñal de Benicalap was.
Leandro Trossard
Spring has sprung and everyone’s favourite vampire Leandro Trossard has come out of hibernation, which means we can continue to refer to him as the Belgian Paul Brooker. The warmer weather caused Trossard to net the winner against Southampton and open the scoring when Newcastle came to the Amex. Both goals were of the highest quality too, lashed home with the sort of power and precision Brighton forwards have been lacking this season.
Joel Veltman
February’s landslide Player of the Month winner continued to go about his business in the manner we have been accustomed to during March. Operated as an orthodox right back in the first 135 minutes of the month, switching at half time at St Mary’s to become a left sided central defender in a back three. That did not faze him with an assist following for Trossard’s goal against the Toon.
Danny Welbeck
Dat Guy made his first start since Boxing Day in the win at Southampton. He marked it with a clever assist, splitting the Saints’ defence open with a perfectly weighted one-touch layoff from a Lallana pass. Followed that up with a brilliant goal against Newcastle, cutting in from the left wing and sweeping a shot into the far corner of Martin Dubravka’s goal from 25 yards.
Poll closes at 8pm on Sunday 28th March
