First away day for 520 days: Photos from Burnley 1-2 Brighton

We have waited a long time to be able to post a set of photos like these – away days returned for the first time since March 2020 and in perfect style too thanks to a full time score at Turf Moor of Burnley 1-2 Brighton.

Albion fans were at last able to hit the road to support their team after a break of 520 days from the 0-0 draw away at Wolves. To say a lot has changed in the world since then would be a slight understatement.

The Premier League fixture Gods were feeling kind, giving us one of the best away days in the top flight to kick start things with, even if the locals and some of their attitudes – it was sadly predictable that the taking of the knee would be booed – are questionable at best.

Cheap beer, surprisingly good pubs and a proper football ground combine for a cracking adventure. It is even better when you win, something which the Albion managed once Graham Potter decided to ditch a bizarre starting line up that had caused a disjointed first half display.

Brighton trailed 1-0 at the break to James Tarkowski’s third minute header and the hosts should have had more. They hit the woodwork twice and the outstanding Shane Duffy hacked one of the line.

Potter abandoned 4-1-4-1 with Pascal Gross at left back and Adam Webster at right back at the interval, switching to a more familiar 3-4-1-2.

The improvement in the Albion was instant and eventually, two goals in the space of eight minutes late in the game from Neal Maupay and Alexis Mac Allister secured an impressive three points at a difficult place to go – fully justifying that 8am can of San Miguel as the train pulled out of London Euston. Away days are back.
