Amazing stadium, shame about the beer queue: Spurs 3-1 Brighton photos

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is stunning, no doubt about that. Spurs though can count themselves lucky that most of these photos from Brighton exiting the FA Cup in a 3-1 defeat to Harry Kane and co focus on the ground itself rather than the horrific service on the concourse.

A common theme ran through these photo submissions – the majority were accompanied by a comment dissecting the half time queues.

  • “Amazing stadium, shame about the queue for beer.”
  • “We were 2-0 down more quickly than you could get served at half time.”
  • “You won’t hear me complain about the Amex again… until the next home game.”
  • “A first half performance that warranted a lot of half time beer so of course you couldn’t get one.”

The last of those comments sums up nicely what happened on the pitch. Most of the 5,700 Albion fans in possession of a treasured Tottenham ticket travelled to North London quietly confident that Brighton could go toe-to-toe with Spurs, perhaps even eliminating the European Super League Elite Six club from the competition.

To stand a chance of doing that, the Albion would need to play to somewhere near their best. What they certainly could not afford to do would be to give away two goals either side of scoring an own goal if dreams of seeing Brighton at Wembley again were to extend by another month into the fifth round.

Adam Webster got the party started inside the opening 15 minutes when his miscontrol and stumble gave the ball away to Son Heung-min.

A couple of quick passes later and Harry Kane was rifling an effort into the top corner past the helpless Robert Sanchez.

Next it was the unfortunate Solly March’s turn to inadvertently send an Emerson Royal cross looping over the head of Sanchez to put Spurs 2-0 ahead before Brighton had even mustered a shot.

Some tactical and personnel adjustments from Graham Potter at half time made a bit of a difference, leading to Yves Bissouma pulling one back.

The joy was short lived however as less than 120 seconds later, Webster knocked the ball past Sanchez when attempting to dispossess Son and that left Harry Kane with an open goal to slide into for his second of the evening.

And so Brighton’s FA Cup adventure came to an end for another season. The Albion’s players will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the bread and butter of the Premier League later in the year, looking to avenge their elimination.

Brighton fans will simply hope for a half time pint on their next visit.
