Albion Photos: Brighton Promotion Parade, 14/05/2017
Photos from Brighton & Hove Albion’s promotion parade held on Sunday 14th May 2017 which celebrated the Seagulls promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 season.
An estimated 100,000 people poured onto the streets of Brighton & Hove to watch Chris Hughton and his promotion winning squad travel on an open top bus parade from Madeira Drive to Hove Lawns, where the players were presented on stage to a huge crowd.
Each player and Hughton himself was introduced to a heroes reception with interviews taking place. Some of the Albion squad had clearly been overindulging a little on the beers, with Dale Stephens in providing a particularly wonderful moment when he described Burnley is a “shit hole” while on stage after turning down the overtures of the Clarets to sign a new Brighton deal.
Player of the Season Anthony Knockaert revealed the club’s new home shirt for the 2017-18 season, which would be Brighton’s first in the top flight of English football for 34 years.
The party was concluded with a brilliant ticker tape display as the sun set over the stage. A fitting way to bring the curtain down on one of the best seasons that the Albion have ever had.
