Day out at Peppa Pig World: West Ham 1-1 Brighton photos
These photos from West Ham 1-1 Brighton will probably leave you questioning what has happened to a once-great football club now reduced to being a host for Peppa Pig.
Upton Park used to be a notoriously difficult place to visit for away sides, both on and off the pitch. The total opposite is true of the London Stadium in 2024-25, where everyone’s favourite television animal has taken up residence.
So much so that we have almost as many pictures of Peppa Pig as we do the actual football. Probably just as well as the Albion made it five games without a victory by drawing against a struggling Irons outfit.
Still, this was a vast improvement on the previous week’s diabolical 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. As much as we have enjoyed mocking West Ham over Peppa Pig here, Peppa Pig would have undoubtedly done a better job if they were in the starting XI for Seagulls and against Eagles six days earlier than any of the Albion’s highly paid professional athletes managed.
A dull first half at the London Stadium sparked into life when Mats Wieffer opened the scoring with his first Brighton goal.
Pervis Estupinan crossed, Lewis Dunk challenged Irons goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to win a header knocked down to Wieffer, who applied the finish.
VAR took a look but concluded there was no foul by Dunk on Fabianski. Wieffer celebrated by limping off injured 30 seconds later, summing up the Albion’s rotten record with injuries so far this season.
The lead was pretty short-lived too. One-time Brighton target Mohammed Kudus rounded off a counter attack less than 10 minutes later with a West Ham equaliser in which none of Jan Paul van Hecke, Bart Verbruggen or Estupinan covered themselves in glory.
There were chances to win it late on for the Albion. Most notably when Kaoru Mitoma somehow failed to covert a Yankubu Minteh cross from a couple of yards out.
A draw was ultimately the right result. Even if it was of little use to Brighton in ending their wait for a victory, to West Ham in the relegation battle… or to Peppa Piga.
