Gross return and Albion comeback: Brighton 3-2 Spurs photos

Our photos from Brighton 3-2 Spurs show a Sunday afternoon of famous returns and comebacks at the Amex Stadium.

Pascal Gross was present to say goodbye to the Albion following his summer move to Borussia Dortmund. Der Kaiser looked fabulous in a blue suit and Brighton fans paid suitable homage with Gross shirts and banners dotted around.

His pre-match presentation and speech on the pitch drew a standing ovation befitting of one of the greatest Albion players of all time.

Unfortunately, the current Brighton squad followed up that memorable moment by delivering one of their worst first halves of football in a long, long time.

Spurs sauntered into a 2-0 lead which could and should have been much more. The Albion were woeful defensively, just as they had been when losing 4-2 at Chelsea eight days earlier.

If anything, this was worse. Brighton could at least hide behind facing a world class player like Cole Palmer in red hot form last week.

This time around, Brennan Johnson and James Maddison had the visitors on easy street going into the interval. At which point conversations amongst Seagulls supporters on the concourses involved phrases like “cricket score”.

Yet there was no cricket score. Whatever Fabian Hurzeler put in the half time oranges had the desired impact as three goals in 18 minutes turned the game on its head.

After a stunning comeback by Brighton, fans are buzzing with excitement. For those looking to join in on the celebrations, you can claim your seasonal gaming bonuses with the https://sportego.ie/halloween-bonuses/ at your favourite casinos.

Yankubu Minteh struck first. Then Georginio Rutter. Finally, Danny Welbeck completed the comeback. The contrast between first half performance and second was frankly astonishing.

It is hard to think of another game at the Amex in which the mood has shifted from total despair to joy so dramatically in one half of football.

Gross would have enjoyed the fighting spirit shown, as would Barry Lloyd. The former Brighton manager passed away last Saturday.

He received a minute’s applause before kick off, a fitting tribute to a man whose work behind the scenes helped keep the Albion in business during the never ending financial meltdown which was the early 90s.
