Gunners gonna cry in a minute: Brighton 1-1 Arsenal photos

For the second time in the 2024-25 season, we have a series of photos showing a 1-1 draw between Brighton and Arsenal which resulted in Gunners’ tears.

Go back to August and the Albion came away with a point from the Emirates Stadium. The game turned on Declan Rice picking up a second yellow card for kicking the ball away not long after the restart.

Mikel Arteta was left incensed at the match officials applying the letter of the law. His mood further deepened when Joao Pedro scored an equaliser against the 10 men, costing Arsenal early points in the title race.

Fast forward four months and Arteta ranted and raved about the penalty which provided Brighton with their leveller at the Amex.

William Saliba caught Pedro with his head as the Brazilian forward looked to make some space in the box with the ball.

Referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot and Pedro subsequently beat David Raya from 12 yards, leaving controversy to reign supreme.

Brighton might have even won it shortly after. Yankubu Minteh got away down the right and delivered a low cross into the box.

It needed only a touch from the arriving Yasin Ayari or Kaoru Mitoma. Neither though could get there, allowing the Gunners to head back to North London with a point.

Rather than blaming the officials for his side’s failure to win, Arteta would be better off focussing on Arsenal’s shortcomings.

The Albion were poor in a first half dominated by the visitors – and yet Arteta’s outfit showed hardly any inclination to go for what would have been a killer second goal.

They had plenty of time to do so after 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri galloped down the right flank and beat Bart Verbruggen too easily with a low shot on 16 minutes.

Yet Arsenal instead resorted to timewasting; something wonderfully captured in one of the following photos where two Gunners are lying on the floor within a metre of each other.

Boring, boring, Arsenal.
