Nice sunset but Toffees are too sticky: Brighton 0-1 Everton photos
The only good thing to come out of Brighton 0-1 Everton as our fan photos show was a stunning sunset over the Amex Stadium.
Brighton were already trailing 1-0 and if we are honest, giving zero indication they were going to equalise when the sky turned a magnificent shade of orange and purple.
The clouds looked angry and this was a just metaphor for the mood descending upon the Amex. Albion supporters were left deeply frustrated that their team managed just a single shot on target over 105 minutes against the team 17th in the Premier League standings.
Brighton players meanwhile engaged in a 20 man brawl with their Everton counterparts after the final whistle. Frustration boiled over thanks to the Toffees’ time wasting antics.
But honestly, who can blame Everton given they are currently in a relegation battle? Time wasting and gamesmanship would not have been an option for them if the Albion had done something radical like try and force Jordan Pickford into a save.
The only goal of the game arrived just before half time from a controversial penalty. Joel Veltman was pushed in the back and as he went to ground, he swiped at the ball with his hand.
You see this sort of thing in virtually every game. Player thinks they have been fouled and so grabs ball to try and force the referee into making a decision.
Except on this occasion, man in the middle Tim Robinson did not think Veltman had been fouled. And so when VAR told Mr Robinson to have a look on the screen at the handball by Veltman, the inevitable outcome was a spot kick.
Iliman Ndiaye beat Bart Verbruggen and that was three points heading back to Goodison Park with the visitors.
Defeat left Brighton without a home win since beating Manchester City 2-1 nearly three months ago. It also meant the long wait for Fabian Hurzeler to oversee an Amex victory against an opponent in the bottom half of the Premier League table goes on.
