No prayers needed at Vicarage Road: Photos from Watford 0-2 Brighton

Victories at Vicarage Road used to be rare in the extreme before Graham Potter rocked up at the Albion. Now, Watford away has become a must-see away game for Brighton fans as these Watford 0-2 Brighton photos are evidence of.

Potter famously launched his reign with a stunning 3-0 win against the Hornets on the opening day of the 2019-20 season.

This result may not have been quite as impressive nor the weather anywhere near as hot, but the progress made over the intervening two-and-a-half years is such that Albion fans left Watford on Saturday evening with dreams of European football very much alive.

Despite numerous improvements over the past 25 years, Vicarage Road retains the feel of a proper football ground.

Away supporters can generate quite the atmosphere and there was plenty to cheer in a first half in which Brighton recorded over 70 percent possession.

That domination did not look like it was going to get the reward it deserved until the final 60 seconds of the half when the Seagulls finally took the lead.

Tariq Lamptey swung over a cross and Neal Maupay produced an outrageous piece of skill to scoop a volley on the turn over Ben Foster and into the top corner of the Watford goal.

Roy Hodgson switched to a 4-3-3 formation at half time and that caused the Albion problems for 20 minutes until Potter earned his money, introducing Alexis Mac Allister and Yves Bissouma to bolster the Brighton midfield.

Back in control following the double change, the Seagulls scored their second when Adam Webster scrambled home a Mac Allister corner with eight minutes remaining.

The subsequent celebrations in front of the away end and scenes at full time were superb. Imagine what they will be like if the Albion actually finish in the top six.
