Old Trafford owned three in a row: Man United 1-3 Brighton photos

Man United 1-3 Brighton made it three consecutive visits to Old Trafford, three consecutive sets of photos of an Albion victory.

Manchester City are the only other club to have won thrice in a row at the Theatre of Dreams since Sky Sports invented football in 1992, putting the Seagulls in pretty exalted company.

The list of notable achievements against United did not just start and end there. Brighton became the first side to restrict the Red Devils to zero shots on target from open play since such statistics started being recorded. United had the rely on a penalty to provide them with their consolation goal.

And Kaoru Mitoma wrote his name into the record books by becoming the leading all-time Japanese scorer in the Premier League after providing the Albion with their second of the afternoon.

A fitting tribute was paid before kick off to United legend Denis Law, who sadly passed away in the days leading up to the game.

Any hopes United had of delivering a victory dedicated to one of their greatest ever players started to unravel after only four minutes.

Mitoma found acres of space down the left flank into which to gallop. He then squared low and hard for Yankubu Minteh to apply the finish.

United equalised before half time from the spot. Carlos Baleba clumsily climbed onto the back of Joshua Zirkzee for a pretty clear-cut penalty.

Bruno Fernandes hit a weak effort straight down the middle but it still proved enough to bamboozle Bart Verbruggen, who dived left.

Joao Pedro had a goal disallowed early in the second half after Jan Paul van Hecke was adjudged to have kicked Diogo Dalot in the build up.

Not that the Albion would be denied for long. Minteh crossed for Mitoma to slide home at the back post, followed by substitute Georginio Rutter firing in a third after Andre Onana got in a right mess trying to deal with a Yasin Ayari cross.

Victory rounded off quite an eight days for Brighton on the road. Three wins, nine goals scored, only one conceded, back in the race for Europe and into the fourth round of the FA Cup after winning 4-0 at Norwich City.
