Seagulls conquer Storm Bert: Bournemouth 1-2 Brighton photos
Judging by these photos from Bournemouth 1-2 Brighton, the Albion’s players rather enjoyed their victory at the Vitality Stadium played out through Storm Bert.
The wind and rain made conditions horrific. And when Brighton went down to 10 men on the hour mark, the remaining 30 minutes felt like a throwback to the Withdean Era.
Here was an Albion side battling for three points in the worst kind of weather imaginable. There is something particularly enjoyable about eking out three points from games like these.
Especially at a venue where Brighton are seriously starved of success. This being just the third time a Seagulls side had won a league game away against Bournemouth in 30 years after a 2-0 win in the 2007-08 season and the 2-0 victory Roberto De Zerbi oversaw in April 2023.
A beautiful one-touch passing move led to the opener after only four minutes. It created a sight of goal for Georginio Rutter, whose shot was parried by Kepa Arrizabalaga straight into the path of Joao Pedro. The Brazilian forward converted from close range for a poacher’s finish.
Pedro was heavily involved in the second Albion goal, which arrived four minutes after the break. His brilliant through ball slipped in Kaoru Mitoma, who gave Kepa no chance with a clinical strike which went in off the far post.
A controversial second yellow card for Carlos Baleba threatened to turn the game in favour of the hosts. Baleba and Milos Kerkez came together when challenging for the ball.
Kerez began rolling around on the ground screaming and that was enough to convince Stuart Attwell to send Baleba for a controversial early bath.
Bournemouth piled on the pressure but were unable to find a way through until David Brooks pulled one back in the third of eight injury time minutes.
That set up a nervous final five, reminiscent of the home game against Wolves when the Albion surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2.
Hearts were very much in mouths when Antoine Semenyo volleyed against the bar with the final kick of the game. Brighton though survived, moving up to fifth in the Premier League in the process.
