Sorry Seagulls thrashed by Fulham: Fulham 3-0 Brighton photos
Craven Cottage is arguably the most picturesque ground in the Premier League. Nice photos are about the only good thing to come out of Brighton away days there in recent years, including this latest 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Fulham.
Roberto De Zerbi appeared to have one eye very much on Thursday night’s Europa League trip to Rome as he named a strange starting XI which included six defenders and the likes of Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck rested.
Yet despite having three centre backs, two wing backs and Jan Paul van Hecke in midfield, the Albion still managed to look a shambles at the back as their winless run against the Cottagers extended to eight games and over seven years.
Adam Webster and Pervis Estupinan combined to allow Harry Wilson to give Fulham the lead with 21 minutes played after being teed up by Rodrigo Muniz.
The same two home players teamed up in reverse to double the advantage of the half hour mark. Wilson this time crossed and Muniz beat Lewis Dunk in the air to head past the helpless Jason Steele.
Brighton had chances in an improved second half performance, although it would admittedly have been difficult to be much worse than through the opening 45 minutes.
Evan Ferguson went close twice and Facundo Bunonanotte hit a post. Just like in Wednesday night’s FA Cup elimination at Wolves though, it felt like the Albion could have been out there all night and they would still have not scored.
A miserable afternoon was then rounded off when Adama Traore made it 3-0 with a stoppage time counter attack after substitute Gross was dispossessed in midfield.
Still, nobody will care that the Albion were hammered by Fulham if a result follows against Roma. Brighton do at least have decent form for bouncing back from domestic disappointment in Europe, the 6-1 defeat to Aston Villa in September being followed by a famous 2-2 draw in Marseille.
Bring on the Stadio Olimpico.
