Beram Kayal voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for April 2015

Only two Brighton and Hove Albion players managed to emerge from an April which included five defeats and one draw from six games as Beram Kayal securing his second WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award in succession to make it two out of a possible three since his January arrival from Celtic.

He started every game throughout April and his importance was no more highlighted than in the home defeat to Bournemouth as, within two minutes of being replaced by Rohan Ince, the Cherries had gone 1-0 up on their way to winning the game. Even when he had a rare off day away at Rotherham, he was still our best player which says it all about just how important the Israeli international already is.

If the shocking run of the results or the fact we managed only one goal doesn’t tell you just what a diabolical month April was, then the identity of the man who finished runner up in our Player of the Month poll should. Rudy Gustede doesn’t even play for Brighton and yet he was deemed the Albion’s second best player on the final month of the campaign, taking over a fifth of the vote thanks to his goal for Blackburn Rovers against Millwall which condemned the Lions to the drop and secure our place in the Championship for another reason.

The only man to score a goal in April was Dale Stephens and he held off the challenge of another Blackburn player, Jordan Rhodes, to take third spot. Stephens continued his return from nearly a year out injured by forming a relatively exciting midfield partnership with Kayal, one of the months only bright spots which Chris Hughton has rightly identified as looking like it could help improve things on the pitch next season. Let’s be honest, it couldn’t get much bloody worse.
