Vote for your WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for March 2015
Moving 10 points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left should all but guarantee Brighton and Hove Albion’s place in the Championship for the 2015-16 season as the clubs revival under Chris Hughton continued apace.
Eight points out of a possible 15 were collected throughout March, including a remarkable 2-0 home win over leaders Derby County in the opening game of the month which the police are still believed to be investigating for daylight robbery.
Those three points were based on a solid defence as were the draws at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and at Millwall and the 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers. The performance of the back four was all the more impressive given that they were without Lewis Dunk for two of those games, Greg Halford stepping in to replace the Albion’s top scorer.
David Stockdale continues to divide opinion but his saves were vital in all three clean sheets kept and even at home to Wolves in the game in which many people blamed him for conceding, while there are plenty of other candidates for the title after a solid month of performances.
Bruno
Injury free and seemingly back to his rampaging best thanks to the freedom offered by having Inigo Calderon playing ahead of him, the right back put on an exhibition of flair against Wolverhampton Wanderers, a game in which he even managed to score.
Joe Bennett
Yet another month of consistent performances from the on-loan Aston Villa left back who again proved his worth in helping keep three clean sheets and continuing to remain an attacking threat.
Inigo Calderon
Was always going to struggle to live up to the heights of his performances last time out which saw him named our February Player of the Month, but he still put in a strong of solid showings in his new midfield position, particularly when helping out defensively against Derby County.
Gordon Greer
Three clean sheets in March and he was involved in all of them, marshalling the defence superbly. He was particularly impressive in the win against Derby in one of the biggest backs to the walls performances seen since Mark McGhee was in the Albion hot seat.
Greg Halford
He’s struggled for game time slightly this season having been unable to break up the Greer-Lewis Dunk partnership but looked the part when called upon during Dunk’s suspension, helping to record clean sheets against Blackburn Rovers and Millwall.
Rohan Ince
Another excellent month for the defensive midfielder culminated in a man-of-the-match showing in the win away at Blackburn. It comes as no surprise to hear that Premier League clubs are beginning to show an interest after his recent form.
Beram Kayal
Has looked an absolute class act since his January arrival from Celtic as he continues to run the show from midfield with his drive, energy and passing range. March ended with a deserved recall to the Israel squad and he is already looking like an absolute steak at £250,000.
David Stockdale
Received criticism from sections of the Albion support for his effort in trying to keep Wolves’ goal out but the game would have been dead without his string of saves either side of that, not to mention match winning stops against both Derby and Blackburn. The fact is we’d have been a lot worse off without him playing in March.
Dale Stephens
Put a nightmare 10 months on the sidelines behind him by scoring just two minutes after coming on against Derby and since then has been handed a number of starts during which it has been evidenced just how much he has been missed this season.
Joao Teixeira
The Albion’s undoubted man-of-the-match against Wolves, that was just one of a number of games in March in which the only technique an opposition defence could find to stop him was a foul. Every time he gets on the ball you can feel the excitement in the crowd, a sensation not experienced since Vicente was at his pomp.
