Brighton FPL Gameweek 16: Liking Lallana rolling back the years
Brighton head into the final FPL Gameweek before the World Cup looking to make it three Premier League wins in a row, following up the 4-1 victory over Chelsea and a 3-2 success at Wolves in which Adam Lallana starred.
Lallana has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment as Albion boss. Lallana was used in numerous roles by Graham Potter but since De Zerbi switched to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, the former England international has found himself in the number 10 position he thrived for both Southampton and Liverpool.
In victory over Wolves, Adam Lallana (£4.9 million) returned more FPL points than any other Brighton player. His goal, assist and three bonus points totaled 14, bettered only by four other players across Gameweek 15.
The Seagulls are averaging 1.69 goals per game so far this season. There has been a marked improvement in this area since De Zerbi arrived, notably scoring seven in their past two matches. Only Newcastle can better that tally.
Gameweek 16 opponents Aston Villa are conceding at a rate of 1.5, meaning that the Amex should expect to see goals. That makes Brighton attacking assets like Lallana worthy of investment.
Other forward options to consider include WAB October 2022 Brighton Player of the Month Leandro Trossard (£7.1 million), although the cat seems to be very much out of the bag when it comes to his FPL talents.
Trossard was the most-bought Albion player ahead of Gameweek 15. He rewarded his new managers with an assist and five points, keeping him as Brighton’s top FPL scorer this season with 78.
Ten points further back is Pascal Gross (£5.6 million), who scored the winner at Molineux to register a nine-point return.
Over the past two Gameweeks, midfielder Karou Mitoma (£4.9 million) is top for expected assists across the team. He also registered his first Brighton goal against Wolves and followed that up by scoring in the 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.
Mitoma has started the last two league fixtures, registering nine penalty area touches and creating four chances for team-mates. Only Solly March has more touches in the final third than Mitoma’s 45 during this period.
Captain Fantastic
Erling Haaland (£12.1 million) returned from injury in Gameweek 15 to register his 18th goal of the season as Manchester City beat Fulham 2-1. Next up is Brentford, a side that have conceded seven goals in the last three matches.
Another strong armband option is Harry Kane (£11.6 million), having returned two double-digit hauls in his last four league meetings against Gameweek 16 opponents 1996 Coca Cola Cup runners up The Leeds United.
Kane is on 11 goals for this season and no forward can exceed his 5.8 points per game over the last 30 days. A strong performance against the Peacocks would set him up nicely ahead of England arriving in Qatar.
