Brighton FPL Gameweek 20: Mitoma is a must have signing

Results from the FA Cup third round mean that four Premier League sides will be playing twice in FPL Gameweek 20 – but that does not mean you should discount assets from teams with only one fixture, like Brighton and Kaoru Mitoma.

It is especially true that managers should not overlook single gameweek names in the best form. And when it comes to attacking players in the best form, then Albion assets are approaching must-have territory.

No Premier League side has scored as many as the 17 goals Brighton have plundered since Gameweek 14. Six weeks with no fixtures to contend with appears to have given Roberto De Zerbi the time he needed to transform the Seagulls from a side who struggled to put the ball in the back of the net into one who finally live up to their xG.

There are three standout picks amongst Brighton attackers. Kaoru Mitoma (£4.9 million) is registered as a midfielder and although a firm fan favourite already at Brighton, for now at least remains relatively under the radar in FPL, owned by just 0.7 percent of managers.

Mitoma returned eight points in Gameweek 19, following the seven of Gameweek 18. Indeed, Mitoma has returned in four of his last five Premier League matches.

His form has been such that he was also voted WAB Brighton Player of the Month for December and November.

Mitoma’s midfield teammate Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4 million) returned to the Albion squad for the 4-1 win at Everton in Gameweek 19 following his World Cup success.

Mac Allister played 28 minutes at Goodison as De Zerbi eases him back into action. That was followed by 45 minutes and two goals at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup after being introduced at half time.

Mac Allister has five Brighton league goals this season, beaten only by the out-of-favour Leandro Trossard (£6.8 million) and Pascal Gross (£5.6 million).

He remains a great differential at just 2.9 percent ownership despite his role in helping Lionel Messi and co to victory in Qatar.

Finally, the emergence of Evan Ferguson (£4.5 million) gives FPL managers a budget forward who has proven himself capable of scoring in the past two gameweeks.

The teenager has two goals, an assist and three bonus points from the win over Everton and defeat against Arsenal.

He also started in the FA Cup and if he continues to be a regular, he is not only a budget enabling pick but also and a contender for the starting XI.

And if after reading all that your heart is still set on players with a double gameweek, then those teams with easy targets are Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

Captain Fantastic
As noted, many FPL managers will look to captain a player who has two matches scheduled into Gameweek 20.

Having been rested during Manchester City’s FA Cup win over Chelsea, Erling Haaland (£12.2 million) is a prime contender to start both games for the Citizens. The forward is already on 21 league goals for this season, alongside three assists.

However, with the announcement of Manchester United’s second fixture, Marcus Rashford (£7.0 million) also looks a worthy captaincy option.

Rashford has returned in all three fixtures since the restart, with a number of goals equalled only by Haaland and Harry Kane (£11.6 million).
