Brighton FPL Gameweek 30: Evan Ferguson almighty value
Brighton have become one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League over recent weeks, which is why many FPL managers are looking to invest in Albion assets including teen sensation Evan Ferguson.
The Irish international is not the only Seagull under consideration, of course. In fact, the biggest problem right now is settling on only three players to include in squads, such is the wealth of options available from Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Brighton FPL defensive options
Brighton face trips to Spurs and Chelsea in their next two gameweeks, sides who have traditionally been good at scoring goals.
That may lead FPL managers to shy away from Albion defenders. However, the Seagulls have kept five clean sheets since gameweek 20, a mean streak bettered by only Liverpool.
Over this 10 match period, Pervis Estupinan (£4.8 million) has registered three attacking returns. Joel Veltman (£4.6 million) has one, as does goalkeeper Jason Steele (£3.9 million) for a quite brilliant assist when setting up Brighton’s first equaliser in their 3-3 draw with Brentford.
Combine the fact that Spurs and Chelsea have failed to fire recently with the Albion having a double gameweek 34 alongside two further fixtures still to be rescheduled, and it seems wise to have defensive coverage.
Attacking options
Brighton have been one of the most free scoring teams since the winter break and that means they have a whole host of attacking options worth investing in over the next few weeks.
Solly March (£5.1 million) has returned seven goals since the restart in gameweek 17, more than any other Albion player.
The impact De Zerbi has had on March is phenomenal; before the Italian replaced Graham Potter, March had gone over two years without scoring in the Premier League.
Furthermore, March has had 37 goal attempts, putting him four ahead of Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5 million) and 14 ahead of Kaoru Mitoma (£5.5 million).
All three of those midfielders have registered seven big chances in those period. Mitoma meanwhile leads the way in terms of attacking returns, with 11.
It is not only in midfield where good options can be found. Young forward Ferguson (£4.6 million) represents a bargain for FPL managers and he scored in gameweek 29 with a quite incredible back heel as Brighton won 2-0 away at Bournemouth.
That was Ferguson’s fourth Premier League goal from 20 attempts since the restart. His three FA Cup goals give him seven in total in all competitions from 18 appearances – a superb record for an 18-year-old with the world at his feet.
Captain Fantastic
If Manchester City forward Erling Haaland (£12.0 million) is fit to play in Gameweek 30, he will likely be the most popular FPL captain.
He has returned 203 FPL points so far this season – more than any other player in the game. City travel to relegation threatened Southampton, where they will be expected to rack up a big score as they try to hunt down long-term leaders Arsenal.
Thinking outside the box a little and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins (£7.5 million) has now registered an attacking return in nine of his 10 matches since Gameweek 21.
Eight of these were goals, meaning he is outscoring all other forwards. Villa face Nottingham Forest at Villa Park with the Tricky Trees having struggled on the road this season.
