Brighton FPL Gameweek 37: Flying Adingra to do double damage
Brighton are one of six sides who feature twice in Double Gameweek 37, meaning Albion assets like Simon Adingra and going to be popular purchases with FPL managers.
The Seagulls got back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, ending a run of six games without victory by beating Aston Villa 1-0 at the Amex.
That result meant Villa have to wait a little longer to confirm their participation in the Champions League next season.
And whilst qualifying for Europe appears a difficult task for the Albion, they look certain to have a big say in who does land up in the top seven come the end of the campaign.
Brighton take on Newcastle United and Chelsea in FPL Double Gameweek 37 before facing Manchester United on the final day of the season.
With that in mind, here are a couple of interesting Albion players for managers to consider.
Pascal Gross (£6.1 million)
Gameweek 37 is a popular choice for Bench Boost usage and managers opting to play their chip need a fully fit squad of players to maximise its potential. Should certain highly-owned midfielders be ruled out, Pascal Gross represents a very solid replacement.
He is currently on a seven game streak without an attacking return but came close to ending that with a goal disallowed against Villa for a narrow offside.
Despite his barren run, Gross still has 15 attacking returns to his name this season. That is why he remains the only Brighton player to have exceeded 100 points in FPL.
The Albion rank fifth as a team for total attempts (517) and fourth for shots on target (196). Set piece takers like Gross in such attack-minded outfits are always good FPL picks.
It means he has achieved the second-most successful crosses (79) during the campaign and sits third for overall chances created (93).
Der Kaiser will be going into Brighton’s fixtures against Newcastle and Chelsea on a high too. At the club’s awards night on Tuesday, he was named both Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season.
Simon Adingra (£5.0 million)
Adingra showed a welcome return to form in the win over Villa. He terrorised the visiting defence every time he got the ball having looked tired and jaded over the past few weeks.
The Ivorian winger created five chances, including setting up big chances for both Gross and Joao Pedro (£5.2 million) well repelled by Robin Olsen.
Adingra managed four shots on target of his own. The best of those was a first half run which drew another fine save from the Villa goalkeeper.
Only Erling Haaland (£14.2 million) managed more on-target efforts than Adingra in Gameweek 26 – and the Manchester City forward scored four times in a 5-1 demolition of Wolves.
Adingra won the penalty from which Brighton found their winner. He was unlucky to see Olsen save the original spot kick and Pedro pop in the rebound. Had Pedro scored first time, it would have given Adingra an assist.
That was Pedro’s ninth Premier League goal of the campaign. Adingra is second to the Brazilian on six, whilst he also has 33 attempts inside the box and 22 shots on target to his name.
The 22-year-old has huge differential potential, together with a fixture quantity that could provide much-needed boosts up Fantasy rankings.
Captaincy
Immediate armband thoughts should go towards someone from one of the six teams playing twice in Double Gameweek 37. Joining Brighton in pulling double duty are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs.
Haaland netted those casual four goals past Wolves to start hitting form at exactly the right time for City as they look to win the title for a record-breaking fourth time in succession.
11 goals in eight recent outings have helped Cole Palmer (£6.2 million) become the joint-leading score in FPL this season on 224 points.
For Newcastle, Alexander Isak (£8.4 million) is making a late push for the Golden Boot. He has scored in seven successive home games for the Magpies.
Spurs meanwhile have two outings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Burnley visit followed by City, who Spurs have a fine record against at home in the Premier League. That could make Son Heung-min (£9.9 million) a popular choice.
