Christian Walton voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for November 2014

He may have only played two games, but that hasn’t stopped England under 20 goalkeeper Christian Walton taking home our WeAreBrighton.com November Player of the Month crown.

Walton received the sponsors man-of-the-match award in the months only victory against Wigan Athletic in which he also recorded only our fourth clean sheet in the league so far this season before playing a big role in the 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers.

That form ensured that Ali al-Habsi’s loan spell from Wigan was cut short after one game and it looked like Walton was all set for a long spell in the side until he was uncerimoniously dropped as soon as David Stockdale was fit again. In picking up just under half the vote, it’s clear that Walton is rated by the Albion fan base if not Sami Hyypia.

Walton’s victory means that for the first time this season, Lewis Dunk has to settle for second spot having won every previous Player of the Month vote. It was still a good month for the defender though who was handed the captaincy for the first time in the home game with Fulham as a reward for his impressive form this season.

There was quite the fanfare when Elliott Bennett returned on loan from Norwich City at the start of the month and he has seemingly lived up to expectations by snatching third place in the poll. While his performances have been good, the biggest positive to come of his return has been that Sami Hyypia has been forced into binning his stupid full back tactics.
