Late comeback in the Leicester sun: Leicester 2-2 Brighton photos

The King Power Stadium was bathed in winter sun as these photos from Leicester 2-2 Brighton show – but it was not just the weather shining in the East Midlands.

Evan Ferguson glowed too with the teenage Albion striker scoring a bullet header in the 88th minute to secure a deserved share of the spoils for Roberto De Zerbi and his players.

Kaoru Mitoma had given Brighton the lead midway through the first half with another goal cutting in from the left flank and bent into the far corner past the despairing dive of an opposition goalkeeper.

Adam Lallana limping off immediately after the opener proved a blow to the Albion, who did not look the same team from that point on. Marc Albrighton was the first of the Foxes to take advantage, levelling the tie nine minutes before the break.

In an action-packed opening 15 minutes of the second half, Brighton should have had a penalty when Danny Welbeck was kicked to the ground in the area. Remarkably, referee Thomas Bramall waved played on and VAR showed no interest in taking another look.

Solly March then ballooned an effort over the bar front and centre of the goal from 12 yards out. That miss was punished by Leicester breaking up the other and earning a corner, from which Jan Paul van Hecke got in a bit of a mess in allowing Harvey Barnes to score.

Brighton had found a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Leicester last season via Danny Welbeck. This time, it was down to Ferguson to provide the heroics when putting a Pervis Estupinan cross into the bottom corner with power and precision.

The result lifted the Seagulls into sixth place at the halfway point of the Premier League season. If Europe is calling in five months time, then the point from the King Power may well be looked back upon as being extremely valuable come June.
